any of you guys run a projector at home? if so what kind and what do you like or dislike about it.. what brand? specs ect... im thinking about getting one for our new place and im trying to do some research on them..

are you talking bout an actual projection tv or a ceiling mounted projector displaying tv on a white wall or screen?

a friend of mine had one in his house. i'm pretty sure it was a sony. it had good picture quality and everything but the bulb only lasted like two years and it was several hundred to replace. but this was when projectors first started getting out there like 5 years ago so i'm sure technology has advanced since then. just research how long bulbs will last in different ones and how much they cost to replace

a projector that throws a picture to a screen or wall. ive been looking into them and found out that the bulbs are the issue with these things but they do last about two years.

Ive owned more then a few of them.... from small 50" screens... to my college house basement lounge.. with full bar..and 109" projection.... I personally wouldnt bother with them anymore... They really need to be in a darker room.. even the ones that say they dont....really do to get that good picture... The bulbs like everyone else says are expensive... but forget expensive... how about hard to find if they discontinue the model.... there is a place in the usa..which actually rebuilds the bulbs for this reason.... If i were to buy one now.. id make sure i bought a replacement bulb right outta the gate... The white wall will give hotspots.. inless to get the special paint... you can buy material on ebay that will give a decent picture... and using black material.. you can frame it in nicely but it still doesnt throw the same kinda picture the new Plasma/LCD/LED tvs throw... and at the end of the day.. the price point on those projectors makes them less desirable for me... considering projectors have sh*t for speakers, so youll need a stereo amp, the wiring costs(more then youd think), ceiling mounts.. cost for the screen setup... and like i say.. even the HDTV projectors dont have the same picture to me....

Now there is one reason Id buy a projector...... MOVIE THEATRE.

If your looking for something to watch daily... forget it..

If your looking to build a really nice theatre room... dont mine spending some good money on it.. then projectors are very nice.... Just do it right...
Seperate room..theatre sitting... dont cheap out on your audio either... great picture is awesome.. but room shaking clean audio is the key...

I personally have my theatre all planned out..and ive been putting together some of the harder to find items over the last couple years....... Have a full sized restaurant soda fountain complete for my snack bar.... still looking for the old school full sized popcorn maker... LOL

Prolly a long rant... if you have any other questions lemme know.

i'd go LCD or LED in a larger screen size over a projection unless like said above i was setting up a small movie theater in my house

i havr one i used to have a sharp one bu it was 400 to replace the bulb so i sold it just before it went and made a 20 profit and i had it for 2 years lol ... now i have a chinese one witha built in tv its good but i'd take a 42" hd tv for it anyday lol im selling it ,it has the leads for an americian plug and tv 200+ shipping ,it cost me 300 last year, the bulbs for it are cheap like €40 for a bran new one and they have long life thats the reason i bouth it!

My godfather used to play his games on a projector and also ran tv through it, had surround sound and everything also had one of the better projectors out there. His entire setup is now sitting in various places throughout my house unused.
Anyways when the setup was actually used it rocked I loved playing games at his house he had real thick curtains in his house that blocked out almost all light and you were able to see games and tv perfectly clear.
If i get back into video games I might try to get my parents to let me set it up in my room the surround sound would piss them off though lol my room is tiny that sh*t would blow me out the window
