problems raising a blaster from the dead

'03 to '06 where better cuz they had hydraulic disc brakes and the new body style. '88 to '02 had drum brakes in the front and a mechanical disc in the rear with the old body style. Here is a comparison of the '06 model to the '02 model. :) 2006 Yamaha Blaster Specifications+Comparison
ok cool thanks.

I got the carb kit yesterday and I rebuilt it last night. The carb was clogged and the fuel switch was the reason why. The thing had completly came apart and pulled all the pieces of it through the carb. The carb defiantly needed to be rebuilt case the float was sticking, I could tell because when I was taking it apart i left the fuel on and it just started running out of the carb.

I also pulled the rear brake apart cause it was seized, and I got it all cleaned up. Now I got to order a new fuel valve and all the brake pads, looks like its gonna be another week before I get this all together...

All gooooood brutha, looks like you are on track now and will be rippin' in no time!!! I:I

Keep us posted...

Yeah I cant wait. I hope to take it out to the Hatfield McCoy trails in WV its like 8 hours away but it will be awesome compared to riding it around our farm

Man this thing is awesome. I rebuilt the carb, put a new fuel petcock on and all new brakes. Everything works great, ran it hard for a good 3 hours today. I could get it up to 52 mph just down our driveway.

Now I really want to go to the hatfield mccoy trails, any recommendations on where to go?

Well now i feel like an idiot. It still runs great, but the float switch must be stuck, because it will dump fuel out when idling or not running. Any ideas on what i might have done wrong? It weird cause i have ran 3 tanks of gas through it since i got it and it just now started doing this.

All it takes is a little gunk to screw everything up with a carb. I'd suggest an inline fuel filter after tearing the carb back apart and use an air compressor to blow out all the ports you can find or can get access to. then double check your float level and reinstall. If it consists then your float level may be adjusted a little high and needs to be adjusted down a nudge.

how do i measure and adjust the float level? I didnt even know that was adjustable. Thanks!

Holding carb upside down with no gasket on it is 20 - 21.5mm, .79-.85 , 13/16-7/8" from gasket surface to bottom of float., you bend little tab on float to adjust it. Did you replace float needle and needle seat? Did you have new O-ring for needle seat?

NOTE: fractional dimensions are my own approxamate equivelant

Have you changed tranny fluid? Do it if not.
