Ok first I was to make sure I did this right... if you are sitting on your bike the place to fill the oil is on the right side of the motor on the top of the case by the kick starter...??? I looked in the service manual and that is what I made out of it... Now from what I could tell it didn't have any oil in the tranny to begin with so I added 1/2 a quart of 10w30. After starting it up now it smokes like CRAZY and wont stay running at idel. Any ideas?

sounds like a bad case gasket... does it leak any oil?
Couldn't tell you b/c it didn't have any oil in it.. I drained the oil and rode it slow for about 30 minutes and it finally stopped smoking really bad... Still smokes some but no were near as bad.. it also had a burnt oil smell before I drained it. When I had oil in it I put it up on a block and it seemed to shift a lot better but now after I drained it now it seems to be just like it was and hard to shift again. It mostly doesn't like to down shift. I have no problems going up.

don't run it w/out oil....

I hope I havn't screwed anything up then B/c i've ran it for about a week now...
So what exactly will I have to do now to fix this?? A complete rebuild of top and bottom end? I guess I'll have to park my new toy for a while then. I didn't want to have to rebuild it untill winter but I guess I"ll have to.

you ran it about a week without oil????? i would be scared to see the bottom end.... your lucky it made it that long without oil!!!!

you just need to pull the bottom end apart and see. your topend will be fine. SHOULD be anyways. but metal on metal without oil is BAD the oil not only lubricates it also cools im sure your gears are colored by the heat now ive been a mechanic for 7 years your not going to like the results of what you have. but then again you MIGHT and thats a HUGE might be ok

Ok thanks... I'll try to find time this week sometime to tare it apart. I'll take pics and post on here so you guys can tell me what I'm looking at. I've never rebuilt a motor but I'm always up to learn. After all that is what I bought it for. I really think the top end needs rebuilt anyways b/c it is getting low compression. I may just have to end up doing a complete rebuild or top and bottom.

just get a crank seal kit and replace them, everything eles should be fine! i ran mine like that for a month on acident one time and everything was fine, but the crank seals where burnt completey out, the only thing left was the lil metal rings in them! lol..but check your bearings for sure!!!
