How badly was it kept ?
If the bike is clean (washed and chain oiled), Id start with this list:
New plug gapped at .018"
Drain and re-fill tranny. I use good old Napa automatic transmission fluid type F. Like $1.50 per quart
Replace fuel filter if it has one.
Clean and/or replace the air filter. Clean inside of air box while your in there.
with the fuel tank at least half full, lightly blow air back up the fuel line while moving the petcock lever from OFF to ON to RESERVE. This will knock any crap that is lodged against the screen in the tank. Remove tank and shake well and pour old fuel out and discard. Replace with new fuel.
Lube and tighten chain (check sprockets for excessive wear)
Grease suspension zerts
Lube throttle cable (or replace) and adjust so that you have a lil play at the thumb
Lube clutch cable (or replace) and adjust so that you have a lil play at the lever.
Top off oil injection tank (or remove system and cap carb).
Inflate front tires to 12 lbs
Inflate rear tires to 10 lbs.
Tighten lug nuts equally.
Check axle. Wheel hub nuts, axle jam nuts, sprocket nuts and rotor bolts.
Check alignment. Sit on bike and place handlebars straight. Use tie downs from the bars to the rear of the bike to keep bars in place. Stretch a measuring tape from middle of front tires (both front and back and set at 1/8" toe in. You can also use a long broom handle to check thrust angle. Hold the stick against the outside of the rear tires. Measure how far it is from the front tire on both sides of the bike. Adjust so that both are equal. Then re-adjust toe in.
Check both front and rear brake pads/shoes. Replace if necessary. Bleed brake fluid and top off.
Once you have the bike fired up, spray some carb/brake cleaner around the intake area and stator cover of the engine while it's running. If the motor changes tone, youve got a leak and need to fix it right away.
Do a walk around the bike and check the tension on all fasteners. A loose bolt can sure ruin a ride, especially one that is hours from home.
