Hey all, new to the forum. I bought a completely stock 06 blaster that didn't run. I put a plug in it and have been able to ride it... kinda. It is very sluggish midrange and up. The reeds were iffy so I replaced them with some vforce4'sort (slight "bananaing" happening). I disabled TORS. Deleted oil pump and mix my own fuel 32:1. New KN air filter. And cleaned the carb.

It just won't open up all the way. Why could this be?

what is the compression on it? test it.
should be at 120psi.
carb out of whack/dirty.
lots of typing but check carb section/do a compression test.
if it did not run when sold to you i would def do a compression test at least.
blasters do have alot of electrical problems sometimes but,you got to find evidence on why this is happening.
if you do not take it apart and inspecto_O

Forgot that part... compression is good, 140+. I cleaned the carb already and yeah it was nasty. I have a carb repair kit with some new jets I could tryout. Also while I had the carb out I dropped the needle 1 spot so it's 1 notch down from the leanest position BECAUSE it was super smoky. It's like the fuel isn't getting atomized and burned fully. Spark plug gap maybe?

put that needle clip back to the middle slot before you fry it

whats the airscrew set at ? should be 1.5 turns to start, then fine tune for highest idle, readjust idle with idle screw
float height ?
what main jet ?
check carb section for threads on those

Didn't figure it would take you guys to long to go over my head.
The smoke smells like gas, not so much tranny oil.
Air leak even when compression is that good?
I'll put the needle back to center spot first thing tomorrow and the screw is all the way in and then back out a turn and a half.
Don't know float height or how to tell. All I know is I put it back after cleaning the carb.
Don't know what main jet it is either. Sorry not the most knowledgeable on this stuff but I'm willing to learn.

Let us know what pipe it has . Get that carb. apart again and put the needle back in the middle like AWK said and what main and pilot jets are in it . Also make sure the washer is under the main jet . It will run like crap without it .

When I had it apart, I don't THINK it had a washer on the main jet... my memory isn't the best but seriously don't recall seeing it.

Stock pipe.

Take it back apart...it needs the washer under the main . It will run like $hit without it . It's a 5mm washer . Make sure it has at least a 250 main with your modz . Might need a bigger main if its cold out in your area

OK needle is back to the middle and carb is apart. I have a carb repair kit and both of my jets are 230. Still not seeing any washer. Is it brass?

[QUOTE="82cutty, post: . It's a 5mm washer .

sometimes the washer sticks to the carb body makes sure it is not stuck there ,but needs to be present:)

/\ is this 5mm washer the inner diameter or thickness?

buy genuine mikuni parts.OEM
jet kits are going to be a nightmare.....
don't buy a washer at hardware store, bad idea.
i have measured the thickness of a original main jet washer with
digital calipers and i can tell you it is 1/16 of an inch thick butttttttttt
buy the original jets and carb parts for your blaster carb, not jet kits:)
rockmountainatv, motosports tons others ect...OEM GENUINE MIKUNI
carb plus idle 1 1 2 big 1 1 1.jpg

OK so it runs WAY better after I put in those jets... (not genuine mikuni)... moose, actually. The washer was indeed missing but it just so happened I came up with a brass flat washer that seated beautifully and was thick enough to sit flush and not protrude (it was just meant to be). The little jet that is right beside the main jet, down in a hole, I couldn't even see through it. Didn't stop there, I changed em all. At first my float hung up and fuel dump out the over flow. So I took it all back apart, didn't really change anything but when I put the carb back in the problem had resolved itself. Over all im very happy with my bike I got on the cheap cause it didn't run, and im happy with the folks in this forum... soo helpful... especially your last post slyder, VERY nicely done.

Now my next question is with the reeds and the air filter I KNOW I have to be too lean right? What do I do? Main Jet? What size? Is that all, something else I should do simultaneously?

Never mind I read a thread awk put up about tuning and in his words I'm golden. Thanks all, happy new years.
