Save yourself some time, $ , and a headache and make sure you measure the bore and that it is still within spec. The last thing you want is to put a new piston in a worn out bore only to have to do it all over again.

The piston is perfectly usable!

Sand down the groove and polish the piston, give it a coat of clear varnish, and use it as an ashtray.
