i had a rebuild just about 4 months ago. but i found out it wasnt jetted right so i might need another rebuild. would it be possible to just buy new rings for it? will that make the compression go up?

anything to look for too see if i need to bore or just get a new piston?

Check the clearance between the skirt of the piston and the cylinder, if there is .004" or more then it needs bored.

lol, I just read the thread where 89custom told you you were screwed. Don't panic, that's just borrowing grief you may not deserve. Buy a compression tester if you are worried, but just because you are running lean, you don't necessarily have terminal engine damage YET. You haven't seized it, right?

So, one thing at a time. Jet your carb. I have seen recommendations for jets from 280 - 310 to compensate for bolt-on mods. I know the Toomey pipe kit comes with a 310 to work with their pipe, silencer, Uni filter and airbox vents (not open). That sounds like a reasonable place to start, especially since you have an open box. This should be your priority if you still have the stock 230. You will still need to do this sooner or later, but sooner is better.

Toomey says these are the settings if you put in a #310:

Floats are set to the stock specification, 20.5 TO 21.5mm using a depth gauge
or the tail end of a measuring caliper.
• Stock pilot jet, #32.5
• Stock Jet Needle #5J22, on the 3rd groove down from the top
• Needle Jet #345 P-6
• Pilot Air Screw ¾ turns out from full in

You'll notice the stock pilot jet, I still like fatter, but that's me.
