Piston after Piston

why do you guys alaways have to do plug chops? you should know how the jetting is just by feeling how it is running

not to bash or anything plug chops get ur jetting right to the spot on point where the bike runs at max capacity, you can always get ur bike to run good, but you could be too close to being lean and think its good to go and end up fryin ur rings because of it, its a safety thing for me and to save me a rebuild i will take the 5 min to do it,the plug tells all about how the bike is running, yeah you can tell when ur rich or lean but if you like rebuilding don't do it. becuase anyone who knows a little about a 2 stroke will do a plug chop I:I

ok guys, looks like i'm in the market for some of these parts too. My son put straight gas in his, and it busted the intake piston skirt. We have no idea what size the bore may be already, and of course, we're doing all of this on a shoestring budget. So I need to know where to buy a good piston inexpensively, need rings, and I guess we'll get the jug checked and then bored. I had no plans of doing that prior to reading this thread, was gonna stick a new piston in it since the bore is flawless.

I'm also concerned about pieces in the bottom end. We were gonna change the oil, but I'm not real confident about splitting the cases.

So we're wide open for good advice here, as long as it's not "spend a million dollars on unobtanium parts" or stuff like that.

I'm also wonderinig WHERE is a good place to order from, that you guys have had good results with.

Thanks for your help!!

ok, some people dont like this idea, but ive done it many times with no problems. to get the pieces out of the bottom pull the motor out and with the top end off(cylinder/piston) turn it upside down and use an air compressor to blow all the piston pieces out, you can also flush with kerosien if you like... thats just my expierences with piston pieces in the bottom end. as for the piston vertex is a decent/cheap piston and i ordered my last piston from ebay for 50.00 shipped, and make sure you have it bored/honed first, so you can see what size piston you need

Exactly what 2smoker said. Its not like doing a plug chop takes forever. I will say it takes less time to do a plug chop then it does to rebuild your motor.

Since we race we do a plug chop at every event for optimum performance due to temp change and humiditiy. My experience is if it's humid the machine will run slugish and you will know is probably running rich, but as the humidity or air cools off the it is less fat and will lean out the machine and the machine will run better at times, it is a fine line to to burn it up. Easier to check the plug. Our case we run the machine as lean as posssible for optimum performance. If it cools of at night racing sometime all I need to do is add a filter outerwear to richen the mixture, but the next day when it's warmer racing the machine is a little more sluggish so we pull off the outerwear and have a notice a change. Note There were times that at night if I did not check the plug we would not have finished the final race, even though the machine seemed it was running very good. Note though most qauds are jetted richer than we run with will deal with the changes, but must get the quad setup first. Many peolpe at the races said the quit racing blasters becuase the kept burning them up, not in our case. Runnig the machine like we do gives us the holeshot we need.

Note we run in Mn were it could be 65 70 degrees at 4:pm and drop to 40 to 50 at night

The bottom is 2002, original seals never opened... ooooppsss since it never gave me any problems i never consider open it up, no debris in it, always gave it a good wash and inspection. Maiby time for a rebuild ? seals gaskets bearings ?

Except for the first time, the jug is always propered bored, always waith for piston to arrive and then take piston and jug to be properly measured and bored. Always new gaskets, ""always buy a piston KIT, never just the piston""
Has it goes for experience on doing this work, well... still learning B-) i gess if had good experience, i wouldnt have so much problems :)

MOST importante lesson... Blasty cant be treated WOT for to long she needs to rest... ok i got it....Need tougher engine i dont want to trade my baby in.

Going to tune the carb today, always do it with my brother, so no problems there. Great guy, rides a KTM EX525, but he just loves to take my blasty for some laps... hell ho dosent like to take a Blaster for a day in the dirt I:I By the he is responsable for all this, he´s the one ho gave me this Blaster.... I:I THANKS BRO I:I

Finally it looks that i cant just ride her this tough... need to cool down...
=)) thats going to be hard

Thanks to everyone who helps out by sharing info and experience, making all of this easyer on those like my with less experience.

I:I Thanks everybody I:I
