Is it recommended to paint rims???

I have stock rims with some rust from a 91'.....

building it for my kid... not to race.... so should I just sand off the rust and paint the rims black?????

Also, anyone tried painting the plastic gas tank cover??? mine is fagged out yellow... thinking about just using all black....

will that work? or crack....

i just finished painting my GF's rims black, i don't have any pics yet though, they came out really nice. dupli color has a rim paint that is supposed to be chip resistant. a lot of people say not to paint them, and that it will just chip off, but i have heared from a few people that have done it and it has last for years.

I just painted my rims black with just cheap spray paint it works great and have never had it chip if you would like to see pics there are some in my pictures hope that help

i have painted my gas tank cover and front hood.
I took both parts off washed and dryed them really good.
Take like a 200 grit sandpaper (or finer) and go over everything.
wash and dry them again.
Use Krylon Fushion Plastic paint.
give it 2 or 3 good coats.
after that is dry give it a couple coats of automotive clearcoat. this way the gas that spills wont take the paint off.
i hope this helps.
mine has lasted very good, not a chip anywhere.

also all my plastics are spray painted just lightly sand it down with a fine grit sand paper and put primer on frist the the color works great for me I:I

Sounds good... i'll give it a shot... I'll also take some before and after pic's....

I painted mine to with the Kylon Fusion, you don't have to use primer with it, it's meant to bond to plastic with out primer. Deff. use the clear coat i didn't do it and i regret it, if you drip any gas while filling the tank the paint comes off, i might strip the paint and do it again in the future just with clear coat this time.

here are the before and after.... I think it turned out really good...
I still have one more coat of red to put on then the clear coat...

Thanks for all the advice...

the Tires are on today's agenda......

being unemployed is turning out to be not so bad after all.... haha

Here's more pic's...

Painting was really easy.... and a VERY inexpensive way to change the look..I think i'm out all of $6 bucks....

Plus the quality time spent with my kids teaching them how to do this...Priceless

Thanks...
