I have been riding my scrambler less and less because of the weight and handling. I love riding my blaster because i can throw it around and maneuver it with ease. Because of this i just dont enjoy my scrambler. I have done tons of work to it and it is really fast in a straight line. I almost beat an 07 outlaw last saturday.
Out of curiosity i put it on craigslist for a trade. So far i have been offered an 08 suzuki ltz400 that is stock, an 01 honda 400ex with couple diff mods, and an 01 banshee mostly stock. I am leaning toward the banshee because its a 2 stroke and i love the style.
I want a light machine, my scrambler stock weight is around 550 dry. and i know the shee and z400 are around 370ish i believe.. My riding is mainly track and open trails, not much rocks or anything of that nature.

What do you guys think?

ya you wont get a 450 quad or a 250r on trade for a scrambler.
the z400 is faster than the 400ex. the 400ex is the best handling and lightest.
the banshee is a banshee. if you ride open trails, the banshee would be the funnest imo. anything where you are just going slow, get one of the 400s.

i can throw my shee around easier then i can my blaster. cuz with the power i can get it to do what i need whenever. if i want to wheelie i can pop it up, and if i need to drift then i can spin the tires and swing it around. maybe there not the best for handling, ive never rode anything else but a raptor, but they just take a bit of getting used to. i dont think they handle that bad. this is all info from before i modded the front end.

i would say go with a banshee or 250r. but i also dont like 4 strokes.

banshee is pretty much a straight line bike. yes some people argue that but its the fact, its pretty much the only machine out there where u have to put a -2 swinger on to make it handle better. the 400ex is an old old old slow design. a stock z400 will beat a modded 400ex anyday. i would get the z400 of ask some people if they would trade a trx250r, scrambler is a wife quad so im pretty sure some one will trade their hot hod quad for it

z400 is much better handling than a 400ex by the way... ive owned both, its night and day

guess what, i have owned more than one of each of the quads he is talking about
i say take the 400ex or banshee. both have way more a/m parts than the z400. also depending on the year of your scrambler, if someone is trading you an 08 z400, something is wrong with it.

imo i think the 400ex handles better. the z400s seem more tippy like there top heavy. if u are wanting something to play on i say 400ex, wheelies all day and very fun to ride. u wanting something fast go for the banshee

Thats what i was thinking to that somthing must be wrong with it. But going into the winter months everyone wants a 4x4 so i have that going for me. My scrambler is a 99 2 stroke and is very fast but handles like a semi truck. he sent me a couple pics of the z400.

and how many championships did Doug Gust win on his z400(440).even against yfz450s and trx450r s he was still on the top box. 400ex has far less superior geometry and is air cooled. every time the 400ex was pitted against the z400 it lost in nearly every category.. z400 was given the atv of the year by ATV sport magazine, Dirt Wheels, ATV action, and others. my 400ex and z400 both had equal amounts of similar heavy mods and the 400 ex was a dinosaur in comparison. even with a 440kit on the ex it was slooooooowwwww, and even pep suspension wouldnt tame its wild bucks due to short wheel base, only thing it did well was wheelie (which isnt good). yes the 400ex was a pioneer in the sport and first of its kind, but the z400 was designed years later to pick up where it left off hence the liquid cooled dual cam motor (which is of suzuki's enduro dirt bike) and superb suspension in comparison better fuel economy, and geometry. done and final good day

let me send them to my comp and ill post them. But i think the banshee, as much as i want it, wouldnt make me happy for the type of riding i like to do

i rode the banshee last night, thing is ridiculous. So fast but its a dune drag setup. I want it because it is soo fast but i know i wouldnt be happy with it, im going to look at the suzuki today and honda tomorrow

It might just be a biased oppinion but i have a 400ex that rapse banshees in the dirt and straight lines i would do the trade for the ex. But then again mine has lots of money put into it.

baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaaa
his 400ex beats banshees in a straight line, /\/\/\/\/\, you're smokin crack, and eatin magic mushrooms dude, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaaa

now back to the question
here's how i'd make my decision, since winter is here and my blaster wont go 100' in over 4 inches of snow, but 4 strokes go good due to the torque at lower rpm's,
so wanting to ride in the winter, i'd go for the latest model 4 poke you get offered, namely the z
