i had to reusee my crankcase gasket because when i put it in i had to pull it back off to pull out the plastic oil gear i used the same gasket because it only had oil in it for maybe 4 hours now yesterday when i rode it i filled it up with oil and 30 minutes later it was 1/4 of the way full. im going to replace the gasket but is there anywhere else it could be leaking from?
can i cut a gasket from gasket material from an automotive store? thanks

You can cut a gasket from standard gasket material but it will be difficult unless you have the gasket punches to do the bolt holes. The other option is a very thin layer of gasket shellac (or RTV silicone) on the gasket wherever the damage is. It's not the perfect solution but should allow you to ride it for a short period without screwing up your transmission while you wait for a new gasket to arrive.

Either cut a new gasket from new material (if you have the tools), order a new gasket off Ebay, or order one from your local dealer.

it is a lot easier and probably a better option to just spend the $8-$10 and put a new gasket on rather than trying to make one, not to say you cant but it is not just a simple small gasket to make. just my .02 cents worth

I have made one before because I was pinched for time. I tore it changing my clutch right before a big ride. I also have gasket punches and gasket knives.... so it took me about 20 minutes and cost my about $3 in gasket material and I didn't have to wait to check out the new clutch.

As far as money goes, clutch cover gaskets are CHEAP and you should order one anyway... just to have a spare for next time.

If the gasket is stuck to one side or other it's hard to tell witch side is leaking. Clean surface and gasket well with carb cleaner. If it's stuck to one side make sure there are no loose spots. If there is clean that area and spooge some sealer in there also. In this situation Permatex #2 might be the way to go. If you use RTV/silicon apply even thin layer, let it skim over (slightly dri) , assemble but don't tighten bolts completly, let set for a bit then finish tightening bolts. Let set overnite, fill with oil.

I agree thats the cheaper way. If your only going to be riding a few time before you do just do like everyone else is saying and put silicone on it and waste $5. lol
