I'm going to get my 97 blaster friday, but when i test drive it i don't even know how to use the gears!
ive been doing some reading on how to ride a quad and it says 1 down and the rest are up and i get stuck on how to get back to neutral??? :-/. i dont want to look like an idiot when im trying to test drive it and please give me some pointers.

i also live in a place without a backyard or garage (apt) im going to leave it in my friend's backyard, should i chain it up with a thick chain to a satellite pole? or what are some good anti theft tips?

1 down 5 up is correct, do u know how to operate the clutch? to get to neutral u go down to gear 1 and pull up a half step and u will be in nuetral

No, i don't the last first and last time i rode a four wheeler was as a passanger a blaster and we were going really fast up a steep hill and the front tire hit a rock and we both flipped back and i landed on my buttocks really hard :D.

wait, so if i'm in third gear do i step down 3 times and a half up?

also what are some major things i should check for? like cracks on the frame???

or some times its easier to go down to 2nd then down 1/2 click into neutral. or you could just leave it in 1st and shut it off. dont let the clutch out until its off.

first thing ya gotta do is get rid of that pink paint job, or you gotta wear a bra over top of your riding gear, and get pics..........house rules !!!!!!!
baaaaaaaaahahahahaaaa

to get to nuetral, go down into first, then up very easily about a half click
practice finding it before you ride it, you'll need to find it to start and warm it up before riding anyway, then you wont need it till next warm up

Well first off remember to use the clutch on the left handlebars. Push the shift level down all the way keep pushing up and down until you feel no more "clicking" or shifting down. When you are all the way down you are in 1st. Getting to neutral can be a little tricky at first. With just a LITTLE bit of pressure lift the shifter up until you feel a movement that is hollow and there is no click.....this is neutral. If you press it too hard up, it will bypass neutral and kick straight to 2nd where you will feel a "click" and "shift".

Another way if you have trouble finding neutral is just asking the guy if it is in neutral to begin with or if it's rolling it's in neutral. If not, shift it down to 1st, then pull in the clutch all the way, and kick start it. Your gear is 1st, but the clutch is DISENGAGED allowing to engine to start and run freely just as it does in neutral. You keep the clutch back the WHOLE time until you are ready to move forward then SLOWLY release the clutch while giving the engine a LITTLE bit of throttle. You will notice it will sputter and start to move forward a little bit as the clutch begins to engage and produce movement....at this stage give it more power(halfish throttle) as you steadily release the clutch altogether.....at this point you are putting around in 1st gear with your hands just on the hand grips and nowhere else. Remember that when you shift up to 2nd, 3rd, etc.....each time you need to let off the gas, pull in the clutch shift up to the next gear, then release the clutch, then give it gas again as you are in another gear now. When you slow down to lower speeds or are coming to a stop, the engine will want to stall because it is not turning enough power to run while the clutch is engaged. So when stopping, pull the clutch completely in.....you can roll and the engine will idle then as the clutch is disengaged and won't cause any stalling. Also, since I didn't mention it earlier, remember to pull the clutch lever in when you DOWNSHIFT as well. For example....you are in 4th gear and slowing......and are starting to take on lower revs and are out of the powerband.....pull the clutch in, push down on the shift lever down to 3rd, then release the clutch lever.
Just a little vid on how to get into 1st gear.

I'm actually surprised there wasn't a tutorial on youtube. Not kidding.....I would of thought somebody would of posted one by now. Something to do on your youtube channel Ken!!! I:I

I might consider making one if not. Kind of dumb, but I remember the first time I rode a manual quad.......oh oh so long ago and had to get used to it. :D
