Well I just got the blaster together tonight and well it starts right first kick has good comp. But ther is black oil shooting all over the rear of the quad its coming out of the back of the silencer and it is running like crap under a load it has a fresh hone and brand new piston and rings and i mixd it 32 to 1. Just little twitchs of the throttle it does ok but after half it falls on its face. I put the tors elim kit on and it has a brand new plug. So my question is why is it running like sh*t and wher is all this black oil comming from? Thanks in advance.:(

Best guess is a leaky or blown RH crankshaft seal in the bottom end. The engine is likely sucking in and burning the tranny oil through this damaged seal.

Did you do a leakdown test on this freshly-rebuilt engine? If not, doing one will pinpoint your problem right away and will prevent any damage to the fresh top end.

Why did you do the rebuild in the first place.

Understanding why could help in the solving.

Do you have any mods or is it stock.

Have you done a leak down test, and how much oil did you use in the rebuild.

It is normal for black spooge to come from the exhaust, but not excessivly unless the muffler packing is soaked.

That makes sense cause after 2 or 3 mins of running the oil was low. And no i havent done a leakdown test what do i need for this and whats involved in doin it.

Good call man. Nicely diagnosed!

I'll give ya the skinny on right side crank seals... Remove the right side pedal assembly, drain the motor oil (what's left of it) and pull the clutch cover.

Remove the clutch assembly, and jam the balancer shaft gear and primary drive gear with a penny and use an impact gun to remove the nut on the end of the crank shaft.

Pull the two gears, key, and "collar" off the right side and remove the crank seal. Press or use a deep well socket to drive a new seal in and oil it well before reinstalling the collar. Reassemble per the service manual's torque specs!

And remember kids, a leak-down test will find these problems on the workbench before they're a major issue like this!

The reason for the rebuild was it didint have comp. And it is stock besides DG pipe and jeted. And it white smokes a lot but I have only had it running for a few mins. But it is a huge cloud of white smoke. Thanks agin guys.

Well a buddy of mine that was helpin me put the quad back together just told me he might have over filled it. Could this be the cause of my problem? After he called and told me that i went out and checked the oil level and its full so it didint suck all the oil out of the case. Thanks agin.

If it has been overfilled the gearbox can be pressureized causing oil to be forced past the crank seal.

If you have not been running it for long periods there is a chance that the seal is not damaged.

What you should do now is a leak down test to see wether the seal is ok.

Drain the gearbox oil and refill with no more than 650ml of oil,

Ok but it will be a while befor i can get a leak down tester money is a little tight this time of year thanks agin.
