I bought a 1995 Blaster about 6 months ago. Then about 2 months after I saw the oil was low so I filled it up but then I was ridin around on it and it just bogged out. I would start it and it would go about 10 feet then bog out again. I finally pushed it back up to my house and had a local shop come pick it up. They took apart the engine and said i cracked a piston. What do i do to fix this? any suggestions? help please. Thanks in advance.

more than likely youl have to get it bored and a new piston.this hapend to my friend and he bought a new top end instead he payed 99$ on ebay

You will have to get the jug measured to see what size piston to go up to. Whatever is measures, go to the next size up. You want to completely bore the cylinder out to max size because the next time it needs a piston, you will need a jug also. Have it measured, and if it is not scarred ar gouged you might be able to get away with just honing the cylinder and going back with the same size piston and rings. You will then need a piston kit and a top end gasket set. That should get you going. Hope this helps. Also you might want to have the crank seals and bearings replaced since you have it torn down. Just a thought.

take the cylinder to a machine shop and have then measure it and tell you what your going to need, they will tell you what size piston to get and then you have to get the piston so they can bore the cylinder to that piston.

are you talking about the 2 stoke oil or tranny oil?

the shop that has your bike should tell you what size piston to get but you can get a new jug too ..search yamaha blaster top end on ebay i wouldnt pay more than 100 dollars

Thanks that does help. but why go up to the next size?

hey i need a top end so i search ebay every day but they got a top end service for 150. you send them your top end, they bore it out, send it back to you with new piston, rings, gaskets.... i was goin to get it done but my dad said he will only pay for it when i get my bottom end together

If you can stay with stock size, in other words just hone the cylinder and you are ok with that, then stay with 66mm. If the cylinder is gouged or scarred, you will have to get it bored.

Yeah im fine with staying with stock size. So what do i need to order? And is this common amoung blasters?

2-strokes need "top end maintenance" when the compression gets low, this is a normal thing and usually involves an new piston (or maybe just rings), boring/honing, and a top-end gasket set.

However, you broke something so the question is "How broke is it?" Your shop should tell you that.

Personally I would plan on boring to the next size larger, and buying a new piston and gasket set. A topend rebuild isn't hard, but do yourself a favor and read the manual (link available elsewhere on this site). But like the other guys said, ask your shop what size to buy.

Pistons are availalbe on Ebay (search: blaster piston) Alot of guys run Wiseco, my builder recently said ProX. Any piston is better than one in pieces, though!
