Hi guys I just bought a used blaster and the guy told me it had a big bore kit in it. This is my first 2 stroke atv and my first 2 stroke that I've owned in about 15 years I had a kx80.

How do I tell if its a big bore kit, I mean it feels fast(not as fast as my yfz450) and will start pulling the front wheels off the ground in 2 gear I weigh about 220. I can tell it has a pipe and possibly a different carb than stock because to choke it you pull the choke up vertical and the stock carbs the choke is pulled out horizontal right? It runs like a top but I couldnt get it to idle possibly because it was like 20 something degrees outside.

Is there really any other way to tell other than pulling the top off the engine?

Thanks

im 250 lbs and on dry ground my blaster will pull front end up a few inches in 3rd, and i dont have a big bore.. look at the jug and look for markings.. like vito's

There is a tool that tells you what your bore size is without taking the head off. It goes down in through your spark plug hole. I have a vitos 240 kit in my blaster and it rips. You also have an aftermarket carb also because you were right about the choke. I have a PJ34 which is awsome for the 240 kit. Sounds like you got your hands on a pretty nice blaster. At least a nice platform. (motor wise)

Yeah its real nice. The frames been freshly powdercoated with new a arms, the plastic is in really good shape. Its very clean. I looked at 3 and this was the oldest '89 model but nicest out of the 3.

I'll check for markings on the engine and try to look for a number on the carb.

edit:keihin pj 07 babg on the carb.

I'll try and ride it more once the weather clears up we are going thru an ice storm today. I only got to ride it for about 5 minutes last night and never really got to get on it in 3rd or higher gears. The guy I bought it off of rode it around his neighborhood and it looked pretty quick.

thanks for the help guys.

Well I took it out in the snow/ice we got here. So much fun. My hand is worn out from clutching it. You really gotta work the gears on these things.

It has a fmf gold fatboy pipe with dg silencer and its pretty loud. Has the stock airbox without a lid and stock airfilter on it. I looked for an idle adjustment screw on the carb but found nothing. I found a small brass screw on the left side of the carb and on the aft portion of it. I figured thats the air mixture screw so I left it alone. My brother suggested maybe you set the idle with the throttle cable? Not sure but I know it wont sit and idle but it does start 1st kick and runs like a champ.

edit: ok searched a bit and found the idle adjust is twisting the choke knob. Will try that next time I ride it.
