Ok so i have dove headlong into my new project bike. I bought and 01 blasty with a siezed up motor. turned out mice were living in the intake after someone sunk the bike in a pond(thats what my detective skills told me) the combination of mice p**s and water rotted out the boysen reed cage and the factory carb and the motor needed a full rebuild... After adding up the cost and not finding another motor to put in i started looking for other options. I found a 89 yz250 with full procircuit exhaust that i was told was a running driving bike for 400 bucks.... perfect... i got there and the kid says he fould the plug(i could see it was brand new) and it wouldnt start. So i popped the plug out and checked for spark but there was none.. Long story short i took it home for 250 bucks. Got home, found the cdi wires cut and hooked em back up and took it for a rip with no clutch ran great.. pulled it out of the frame and fixed the clutch and some other little issues then wandered over to the blasty frame. Cut the swingarm and slid the new motor in. no is where th fun begins and where my questions lie..

1) what raditor setup are being used in this swap( i have the bike rads but cant find a spot i like that looks good)

2) is there any no-no's to modding a pipe? ( i have the full procircuit exhaust form the bike that i can make fit when i cut it at the welds and rotate things around but i read somewhere that the headpipe has to sweep upwards directly off the head or it wont perform right. is this correct?)

3) what stator are you guys using to get a headlight coil back? ( i do night riding and really want to run some headlights... and alot of groud riding so a tailight would be great)

4) what gearing are you using? i have the stock blasty rear sproket but need to buy a front sprocket as both my stock blaster one and the yz sprocket are shot...

thanks for any help guys and pictures of radiator mount setups would be great..

the biggest no no about modding a pipe is you can't change the length in any way.

i believe you can use a WR stator to get your lights back.

there are a few others who have done this swap, search around this section and you'll be able to see how they did it

You can change the length of the pipe. It affects where the peak power is.

it is changing the length and shape. you dont want to make it wider or narrower, longer or shorter unless you know what you are doing.
but are far as the turning of the pipe, that is ok, you might notice a little less power from the added restistance, as a more free flowing exhaust is better.

ok guys i read it online and it made no sense to me either, i just dindt know if it had something to do with the powervalve, and im not changning the shap or length in any way just cutting it at all the seams and welding it back together in a better clocked position... thanks for all the help.. ive searched through a bunch of pages but cant really find any solid info on radiator setups...

A radiator shouldn't be difficult. The only hard part is mounting it. It won't matter too much what radiator you use. You could just use the radiators from the YZ250.

well i would really like to use one single rad from the original two on the bike, that would make the install real clean but i dont think it would cool enough... any thoughts on this?

asking because i would like to hide them as much as possible to make it clean... i have a spot in mind but wont be able to work on it again until tuesday so ill have to have a few beers and see was the beer gods tell me to do hahah

i used a radiator off a yfz450 for my swap 06 model i believe but u can use just about any of the yfz, another guy used one off a predator 500 and i think that radiator is just a little bit smaller than the yfz one so it might fit a little better if your not gonna modify your frame any. here's a couple pics of the way i did mine.

thats what i was looking for... thanks... im goona look to see how the two tanks ive got fit in that location and if its not great ill get one of them.. thanks alot are you using the stock front sprocket off the yz?

so far im using the stock front sprocket but im gonna order a couple different combinations. yz otis told me he is running 12 40 and it works good for trails. i tinkered around with the 2 rads that came with my motor but i couldnt find any combo that i liked and couldnt find a way to make it look as clean as the yfz rad.

larry, im not shortening it to change the bend im cutting at a seam, rotating it on itself then welding it back together, so basically im changing the shape of the snake not its size
