Hi new here.

Ok i just picked up a 96 blaster from a friend for free. It needs some work but i wanna get it running again. It ran when it was stored. It sat for about 7 years. Im doing the normal ,clean carb, lubing up the engine etc etc.

Here is my question: It has a fmf fatty pipe,v-force reeds, 240piston, some porting to the head, a 35mm trx250r carb and a open airbox. What should i try for jetting in it? There is a 175 in it. That seems kinda big . Any help will be appreciated.

dude that is huge!! Type of carb? is it an airstryker? safely start at 155 and 50 clip in the middle then do a plug chop. That's the only way u are going to. Get where it needs to be. And if u don't know what a plug chop is I'm going to tell u. Run ur bike through the gears and Rpms hit wot peak Rpms in 4th or 5th don't matter an the shut it down and cut the metal off of the plug and look at the insulator it should be mocha brown with a brown ring. now is it a 240 kit? u said a 240 piston but is it bored 40 over? If it's stock that carb is wY too big for that motor

ok thanks. Im not sure of the carb. The guy i got it from said its a trx250r carb and thats what it looks like. And its a 240 kit sorry, i dont know much about blasters. I got to get it running first before i do the plug check

if its a 240 sleeve or kit then thats a good carb for it. he 250r uses a 34mm pj carb i beleive. the 175 may be to large but if thats whats in it i might go ahead and see how it works before putting something much smaller in. lets see some pics of your free blaster. lucky!! o and welcome to the site!!

175 is pretty big on that jet for that bike, however you never know. Tell you what, I really doubt youll run lean on that jet, so Id just fire it up and ride it and see what she does.

Jetting can be straight forward and it can be an oddball thing. Ive seen 2 machines with same specs in same area need 2 totally different jets. Whats even odder is they both ran about the same but had 2 different jets in them. Every motor is different.

Im from Wisconsin. And i got quite a bit of work to do before i get it running.I have to push start or pullstart it.Something is wrecked inside because the kickstarter doesnt do anything. And by the look of some of the extra parts i got, there are 2 clutch baskets with smoked gears on them. Any idea what is causing this?I'll get some pics up of it this week, just got done riding other quads today! I will probably work on it this week.

Ok so i took apart the reeds and inspected them and the carb also. Everything looked good. I put a 165 in it for now . I want to try starting this thing but i hafto wait for someone to pullstart me!!! I want to get it running to see what im going to all hafto do to this thing! Then ill fix the clutchbasket/kickstarter. I'll post some pics tomorow or really soon for you guys. It aint pretty but has potential.

That looks just like the clutch on my son's Blaster he bought for $100. Complete clutch will run about $300, I also had to get primary drive gear. I bet just the end of kicker spring breaking off could cause this. If you pull it apart now it may only cost $3.99 for a quart of oil, which probably needs changing anyways.

This is kind like preventive maintenance.

Ok so i pulled off the cover and no suprise. The clutch basket gear is shot. Oh well i figured that. Im not going to fix that until i know this thing runs and see how i like it. I had a stock blaster when i was younger and am curious to see how it is again to drive one of these. As i have alot bigger machines now.

Im gonna try push starting this beech tomorow morning!!! Wish me luck!!

i got it running today. With the 165 in it it was way too rich. The only jet i had that was smaller was a 148 and it ripped with that in but i didnt run it long so the plug didnt get much color. My question is does this jet sound right or should i go with a 150 or 155??

165 was friggin ridiculous, i have a +3 240 ported, well its in my sig my mods, and im at 158 and a 48 and im right on with a little wiggle room, anyways what size carb u got?

A stock trx250r carb. So i believe a 34mm. As stated b4. It rips with the 148 in it. But o dont want to run it too lean. I might pick up sum jets tomorow. Maybe a 150, 152 and a 155. What do you think of the 148 i have in it now??
