im kind of in the market for a new toy, ive found 2 potentials. #1 a 199? blaster with a 1979 tt500 motor on it but needs carb rebuilt or replaced but guarentees it runs and its fast with a working carb. #2 is a 2001 250 blaster with big bore kit thats been milled ported and polished with a slightly extended frame to fit a tall guy compfortably this one needs a piston. they are both the same price at $500 each. both cosmetically nice and clean. any opinions on if their better off walking away from or which one sounds better.

I wouldn't be sure of ether one. The 500 Blaster may give you a lot of frame problems later. The other one has my wondering on it being a 250 and of the frame mod to make it longer. I'm real Leary about back yard engine swaps.

Frame extended for a taller guy does sound fishy.. its ashame you cant trust or believe anyone when your trying to buy something..

i agree with that one, the non internally balanced bike engines have been known to cause frame/mount cracking problems, if they don't vibrate you off first.

IMO.....it's pretty hard to beat the power to weight ratio and fun factor of a properly built blaster/engine

so in your opinions id be best of with the semi stock one?. whats your opinion on a bbk with 3" stroker ported and polished for dependability..

yep, better reliability out of a blaster engine.
and guarenteed to not be a hack swap job with some vintage, hard to find parts for, vibrate the hell outta ya,
bike engine.

reliability is in the hands of the owner
doesn't much matter if it's a stock, ported stock, or a stroker/BBk.
if the maintenence is kept up routinely.....proper jetting, good oil, leakdown tests,
compression checks and re-ring/hone when needed, and any can provide years of fun.

thats really what i want to put together but have had several "mechanics" try to guide me away from any bbk or putting stroke kit in it.

i can't comment, as i run stock stroke and cylinder, although heavily ported,
it's more than fast enuf for where i ride.
i can tell you that ken has built most of the +3-4mm stroked/BBK's on here......
kenoconnorracing.com
give him a call and see what he tells you.

i will do that. there really is no blaster guys here locally i found to pick their brain. they mostly say go get a banshee.lol but ive been trying to research a good combo for one ive heard everything from porting, boring and putting a dirt bike carb on
