Hi everyone:
Sorry to bother, but I am looking to purchase a new atv for my 90 lb. 10 year old son. He has started on an automatic 50. I don't want to have to purchase another 4 wheeler in the near future so I am considering a blaster or 250ex. Is a blaster too much for this age. Am I inviting trouble? I understand this is a 2 stroke machine. Is it a "real" manual transmission? Does it have an electric ignition?
Any advice would be great. In my area there are a bunch of blasters for sale - so prices are good.

Thank you,
John

The blaster is a good bike, especially if he likes to modify and tinker with things. Theres endless possibilities. To answer your questions, yes it is a real manual tranny, it does have a clutch, and it is a 6 speed. It does not have an electric start, its kick only. I think it is a good quad but it is fast and is powerful. Im 6'1 220 and it will lift on me. You can limit the throttle and gear it slower and whatnot though. And the parts are everywhere, since 88-02 are the same thing. Then 03-up parts are also interchangable, some with a little modification. If you have more questions there is tons of info on here

Got my daughter this blaster at age 9 & has been able to kick it over since.
Took a bit of work before but now she has no prob & knows all her controls very well.
I take her on easy trails and mild dunes. She rides 2nd & 3rd gear, 1st is useless..
She's growing into it pretty well, she's now 12 & enjoying it very much. I will never buy her another quad. She will ride the Banshee when old enuf.
