hi guys, i just got a 2003 red and black yamaha blaster, im stuck between getting a new exhaust or nerf bars first. i already got rid of TORS and the oil injection and cleaned out any unnecessary wires. what should i get first?

alright, thanks! also, sometimes i have trouble starting and it bogs down sometimes right after its started. it doesnt have any problems once warmed up though. do you think its just the cold weather or do i need to adjust my carb?

yep, the air screw only really changes the mix at idle speeds. with the air box lid off i would say i should be at 270-280 main. read up on some jetting threads on the site and get informed

wait, im sorry but im really bad with this. so the screw on the side of the carb with the fuel line is the fuel screw, air screw, or air fuel mix screw? then theres the big screw on the top which i think is the idle, but what is the whats the jet?

The large screw at the top is the air screw. The screw at the bottom next to the fuel feed line is the pilot air screw. It adjusts the fuel at idle.
I would recommend doing a vitos TORS delete w/ aftermarket carb cap & idle screw kit.
In order for you to adjust the fuel you will need to get a larger jet. There are numerous threads about jetting and a couple how-to DIY plug chop threads. Its pretty simple once you read it.

he said he has troubles with it at idle, which don't have sh*t to do with the main jet, but the main should have been bumped to around a 250 for the missing airbox lid, and possibly one more size up for this cold weather and the oil injection delete

but he's not reporting troubles at 3/4 to wide open throttle, which is the only place the main jet effects, the pilot and needle/clip position will never need changed on all but the most heavily modded blasters with a stock carb

is the air filter clean ????? whens the last time it had a new spark plug installed ???

also are you using the choke when starting it for warm up ???, are you actually letting it warm up before riding it ????

i'd say turn up the big idle screw under the seat a little and see if that helps, then try adjusting the air/fuel screw to adjust the idle to it's highest rpm's, hopefully thats less than 2 turns out, 1 1/2 out being the norm, then readjust the big idle screw under the seat
if the problem continues at idle, i'd say a carb cleaning/rebuild, and leakdown test are needed

and heres my opinion on mods........suspension first, pipe/filter, brakes, then motor work

i almost corrected the problem, the air filter was really dirty and it only has the bogging down problems when warming up. once i let it warm up it rides great. im going to get a new plug for it also because i dont think it was ever replaced.

and yeah i use the choke to start it but today it was 60 out and it started right up. it still needed to warm it up but one kick got it goin. gotta love yamaha!
