Just bought this 03 blaster in great shape. I'm third owner. The guy I got it from let it sit due to carb pouring gas out. I clean the carb fixed that put in new plug. It fired up after about 5 kicks.

I been researching on here and knew it probably would need a new top end. Since the whole bike is completely stock and he has no idea when last time top end was done. But it seems awful clanky. Its my first two stroke so I'm learning still. Is that how they sound with a bad top end? Or do I have bigger issues?

If it matters the bike seems to run very strong still.

yea something is not right i'm guessing conrod or crank bearings the only way to know for sure is to take the jug off and do some investigating but before that i would do a compression test to give your self an idea of how worn the top end is

Thanks guys. I'm going to do a compression test as soon as I get a chance. I was hoping to stay out of the bottom end. My friend listened to it and said his sounded the same before he done his top end. But I don't believe its just the top end but that's my gut feeling. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.
