I just purchased a brand new chain (Primary Drive Oring 520x92) and new sprockets. When adjusting the chain tension, the chain tension adjusters are almost all the way out? Is this normal?
So, you are seeing much more thread on the adjuster bolts? Sounds ok to me if that's the case. As the chain ages and you make adjustments, you'll be tightening that bolt in which will pull the carrier back.
Otherwise if the carrier is already at the rear of its travel and this is a new chain, remove a link.
i did this once, bought a new chain, and told 'em it was for a blaster, but they musta gimme any ol 520 o ring chain, so i had to take like 4 links out of it to get it to work,
i just adjusted my carrier the whole way in, held the chain in place and marked where to cut it
For me the standard drill is:
Order a standard non-oring chain 120 links.
Set my adjusters all the way in.
Wrap the chain around and mark it.
Break it where I need and adjust it tight.
Can't go wrong!
Of course it sucks to order a chain actually made for a Blaster and have to go threw all that but ya gottah do what you gottah do sometimes I guess....
Did you end up putting a half link on it? I was told that half links are extremely weak and should not be used on atvs and dirt bikes. Also The chain goes above the bottom chain roller right? Just to double check.
i didnt need one.just loosen the two long bolts that hold the carrier.loosen the nuts dont take them off.put your chain on pull the carrier back til its tight tighten nuts adjust from there.
u say the adjusters are all the way in..u have loosened the nuts that keep the carrier in place right? the whole carrier should spin forward closer to the engine...the adjusters are really only for pulling it taught..but not to tight...
I know how the adjusters work. I am running the stock 13/40 sprocket combo. I was just surprised by how little adjustment was left with a brand new chain. I got the chain tensioned properly.
