Hi everyone.

New to the forums.

Just bought a 99 Blaster.

My questions are as follows.

When turning the fuel on, the dump hose seems to piss gas out of from the bottom of the carb. In my welcome thread someone mentioned stuck float?

Anyone know if this is a quick adjustment//wd40 fix?

Also, this machine needs a break job, I'm reasonably handy, is this just a matter of changing parts or this a job best left for a mechanic.

Thanks in advance guys

yeah hit the bottom of the carb with a screwdriver, that doesn't work, take it off and clean it up and adjust the floats, thats how i do it

the brakes are more or less just changing parts and readjusting. And like 2smoker said, you can just tap the bottom of the carb w/ something and if that doesnt work it will need to be cleaned.

^^^ what they said
This sounds like a couple real easy fixes, you shouldn't have any trouble. But if you do thats what were here for.

Thanks guys. Anyone know of a write up on doing a front and or rear brake job. Did a carb clean, running awesome, 1st kick.

No brakes what so ever.

the rear caliper usually just gets gunked up. You will have to probably completely tear down the caliper and sand and grease the brake piston inside. As for the front usually all they need is to tighten down the wingnuts to compensate for pad wear. Check your pads to make sure they arent shot though.

Thanks for the quick response. The nuts are down as far as they go, so I may need more than shoes. I may just focus on the fronts.

Think I should just buy new drums and shoes?

Thanks in advance, I'm dieing to ride this rig.

I was looking at the service manual and the drums should be no bigger then 111mm(4.37in) inside diameter. If it measures out good then id just go with shoes. The shoes usually wear first. You can get shoes for 88-02 on ebay for around 30 bucks. My screws are in as well I need to do the same but my back is good.

Thanks man. Sounds like I should swap the front shoes 1st, worst case, it doesnt improve I'll buy new drums too.

So I shouldn't go to the stealership for brake parts?

Ebay the better way?

I'm glad to help out. i would probably go ebay route. Not every dealer is a total rip but the majority are.
Brakes would probably have to be ordered from the dealer also. For instance my dealer wanted 68 bucks for a standard chain! I got something similar for 30 or so.

you can buy a whole new brake setup on ebay cheaper than you can buy brakes from the dealership, so yeah i would go ebay, i always go to ebay, or here, saves me the gas money to drive 20 min down the road

For your front brakes, you can get more lift out of them if you just readjust the arm on them. Take the pinch bolt out and move the arm back a little and then readjust the wing nuts. Make sure you look at the spot where the cables meet by the stem. That should pull up evenly too when you pull your lever.

on the rear brakes you might have to buy a short brake cable to eliminate the parkin brake ......it helps alot.....try a good cleaning first tho
