My Motor Siezed.

I went riding in the fresh powder snow with my buddy tonight. All was well and good. We ran the track for 10 minutes then started doing some donnuts. I started a donut and down shifted and I heard that formidable clunk. The motor stopped dead on me. When I tried to restart the motor the kick starter wouldn't move. I haven't torn it apart yet to find out exactly what the problem is and probably won't have the time for another few weeks but can anybody help me out as to what I might be looking for when I do get it apart.

well.... do you think it could have seized because of the cold air? did you re-jet for the temperature?

i know you aren't asking why it died... but i was just curious, for the sake of you fixing the problem and not blowing up another one.

you will be looking for burnt/melted rings, missing pieces of piston, and scratches on your cylinder wall.

if your piston came apart or you lost some crank bearings, you will need to have the cases separated and cleaned/inspected. (not a bad idea to do that anyway)

This is my first quad so pretty much everything is a learning experience, and unfortunately I did not rejet for the cold, which could be the problem, but I have run several times this winter with no problems and even in colder weather.
The quad is completely stock so what jet would I need to run in the cold to avert this possibility in the future?

I got the top end off last night. The piston lost the front skirt but the rings were all fine and the cylinder walls look like they are fine. I removed the big chunks of the broken skirt and there is obviously some shavings in and around it. I guess the question is...If I have all of the big pieces of the broken skirt can I just flush the crank case with keorosene to get out the shavings?

I finally got the motor back together and it's running great. I put in a ProX piston and Cometic gaskets and the compression is much better than it was before. Now it's time for some new rubber and an exhaust system - I'm thinking Toomey or Project Blaster.
