we just finished putting the entire motor back together after splitting the cases and it ran fine for a few days and the the only problem we had was the push rod nut loosening on the clutch but now its having a problem that it wont shift out of neutral and neutral is the same as first gear and the quad will not take off. and it wont shift any higher or any lower then neutral and it hovers over the edges of neutral on the shifting star. but wont go into the first or second positions or any higher. we fixed the clutch problem and it didnt help so wtf could be goin on inside the cases? i see splitting in the near future

Sounds like one of the clutch nuts is loose, or its assembled wrong (thin washer on the inside of the basket thick one on the outside i believe). Sounds like it might be adjusted wrong....

Will it shift with the bike not running or is it only when it is? If it won't shift when its not running and you tried rocking the bike to align gears while shifting, it may be that the shift fork or forks have become misaligned. The longer shiftrod may have been installed backwards? Or without the c clip and caused it to slide out. This would involve splitting the cases. I can't think of a scenario where you won't have to split them unless its something obvious.

it wont shift running or not running. all i know is that my friend pulled off some clips when i wasnt there and i put clips in where it looked like they go i think there may be one missing on the shaft with the gears on the leftt side but i cant be sure. i also know that the shaft that one of the forks rides on on the left side slides out. i havnt slid it out but i know it will because nothing is holding it in there
