i just got my blaster back from the shop on friday, it had a top end rebuild new piston cylender, gaskets and reeds, rode it friday night didnt ride it saturday and got it out sunday (today) took it for a lil tour and it stalled. now it wont start. its got compression, fuel, spark and the plug its good. i dont know where to go from there and i dont want to drang all the way back to the dealer if its somthing simple. let me know what you think. thanks
PS its an all stock 2002 yamaha blaster with the TORS removed.

Question? What is the compression reading?

Did you or the shop guys do a break in proceedure, Heat cycles, and easy riding for a tank or two.?

Did you do any breakin proceedures or did you just "Fang" it?

It is possible that the compression is low if the proper heat cycles were not performed prior to riding.

If you are able to do so re tension the head bolts as per manual ( cant remember the specs and my pdf reader wont let me to my manual).

If you dont have a tester it looks like you may have to visit the shop!

yes, proper heat cycles, retorque and a leakdown test are all required before going on that "lil tour"
your foot on the kicker is not a good substitute for a $15 compression gauge

retorque the head and base bolts, then pull the carb to inspect the reeds, which will require another leakdown test

if your gonna own and maintain a 2 stroke, it's time to invest in a torque wrench, compression and leakdown testers
or your shop, and the piston companies will pad their retirement funds from your wallet

I think the base nut are 20 and the head is 15. Double check on that first because I'm not a 100% sure.

it's 20 and 18 ft. lbs, but i forget which one is which
i believe 20 for base, and 18 for head

and if these stupid head ach problem keep on happening its going up on kijiji and a honda 400ex is coming to my grage, im so over 2 strokes

that-a-boy
cause your lack of proper break-in and maintenence is just gonna give all us 2 stroke lovers a bad rep

So if you think you have problems with a 2 strokes, 4 strokes have problems as well and usually cost many $$$$s more to fix.

true but they dont happen near as often, and im not giveing 2 strokes a bad name, just im done with them, i dont have the time or patients to deal with them. this is only my second 2 stroke and they both have had problems since day one. when i have my honda crf80f it was always there ready to go

we real 2 stroke fans love the little maintenence and tuning these things take,
all for the satisfaction of embarassing them 400 ex's

sound fishy why the bike just stalled and wouldnt start back up. this happend too me before and after a leak test came back good i relised that one of the power reeds had cracked and it was as easy as replacing that. if the bike has the same compressen as when u got it from the shop then screw the compression tester as bad as that sounds youll pay 30-80 bucks for it and use it this once ? just to have it tell ya your maybe 10 pounds off. by the sounds of it the shop is what mantaines your bike. i had mine worn out at like 55 psi in the cylinder before and she'd start better then any 400ex or anything else just had to burn er hard to get power . when u find the problem let us know im curious
