I never ride without a helmet, 50k miles on my 06
I do feel it should be yur choice to wear a helmet or not
From the sounds of it this fkn d.b. had no clue how to even ride lol

I believe that helmets and seat belts should both be optional. You're dumb if you choose not to wear them, but it should be your choice in the long run. It is your life.

I agree with the choice thing to a point.

The problem with it is, who do they send the bill to for cleaning your brains up off the concrete? Those people who work that sort of stuff have to do work like that. If everyone wore a helmet, would it completely reduce all deaths? No, but if you want to kill yourself, just stick a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger.

Obviously if you chose not to do that, youre pretty much choosing to live, so really, youre a dumbass if you dont wear a helmet.

So while Im all about free choice, the freedom to die like that shouldnt be one you are given. You wanna kill yourself theres lots of different ways to do it.

Where does the clean up charges stop at someone not wearing there seatbelt and get thrown from a car, or the guy with a helmet and his head gets smashed and there is still a mess, I think the mess thing is a little off topic

They could charge the family for that too.

I just dont understand some of you. The people who think its your right to put yourself into wanton disregard. Its not just you thats affected, its everyone else around you. Your family. Your kids, parents, friends, etc.

The whole thing sounds stupid to me. If you want to hurt yourself/kill yourself do it another way. It just doesnt make sense to NOT want to wear a helmet/seatbelt. Theyre 2 cards in the same deck.

Pretty sure no one is saying not to wear a seatbelt or helmet. We don't want a law to force us to. We have too much government as it is. And I see seatbelt laws as just a money maker for government imo.

I will have to agree on this. I think under 18 should be made to wear a seat belt and use a helmet. Over that age should be your choice.

Ok and as long as it is your choice whether to wear your seatbelt or helmet, think of this scenario. On her way back from dance class, 6 year old Bre is singing along with the radio when suddenly a motorcyclist T-bones the vehicle in from of their van and the rider, who is not wearing a helmet, gets shot off the bike and impacts an embankment at 30 miles per hour. His unprotected body doesn't holdup to the hit and he dies of major head injuries. The car that the motorcyle hit loses control and hits a tree and both of the passengers are ejected because they chose not to wear helmets. The child witnesses all of this as her parents call 911. It is too late for any of the people involved and they all die. Now this child has the image burned into her mind of the accident. The chunks of twisted metal and the bloody roadway. She watches as the family drives past the coroners van loading the bodies. How will she feel? She will have to go to counseling for at least a year and may not recover from the sight for a few years. It will change this little girls enjoyable life just because the government allowed these people to make the choices that they wanted. Now lets look at this incident from a different angle. The motorcycle impacts the car and the fully protected rider hits the same obstacle. The helmet hits the ground and protects his head fully. The leather jacket that he chose to wear protects him from major cuts. The vehicle that he hit runs into the same tree and the buckled passengers are slowed down by the seatbelts that they legally had to wear. The airbags engage and protect them from major injury. All the people involved survive and the young dancer is rattled but as she see's the people talking to the emergency personnel, she knows everyone is ok. The next day she returns to the dance class and sings and dances with her friends like normal. No counselling, no life changing events. She grows up to be a successful dancer and makes a career out of it. And before she performs she tells the audience how important it is to wear a helmet or seatbelt. This is of course a made up scenario but I have seen some crashes where the people involved were not buckled in and did not survive. I have also seen motorcyclists who have wrecked and been seriously injured and in one case killed because they simply couldn't take the 30 seconds of their "freedom" to strap on their helmet. So please, buckle up and wear a helmet. Drive and ride responsibly!
