Hi. I want more power and some more speed. I heard lightening the flywheel and porting the cylinder will help. Should i bore.? What should i do to the head. Not looking to go crazy. I got fmf fatty and powercore 2 silencer and front bumber nerfs etc for the looks. Thanks

Lightening the flywheel is a poor HP/dollar mod and can end disastrously. I would only recommend cutting a flywheel on a drag quad (in which case the flywheel coming apart is only one of the potential bombs the rider is sitting on top of)

The thing to consider is this, what are you going to be using the quad for? If you're just trail riding and playing around, a mild port job and head mod would really perk it up (in addition to the FMF pipe and jetkit you've already got)

If you're trying to use this competitively, you're going to need a much larger list of mods and much deeper pockets to make it happen.

Porting and head mod are always a good place to go to make some more power, but you need to consider the other parts of the "system", your carburetor, your exhaust, your clutching, your drivetrain....

Upgrading the engine output is only going to go so far towards putting out power before other things will need to be upgraded to cope with those stresses.

james i have to disagree with you on the flywheel. i have ran lightened flywheels on almost every machine i have owned for the last 7 ot 8 years and have never had a problem. as long as the it done right it should not be an issue. lightened ones have been known to fail more so than a stock one, but the cases are far and few in between. other than that you need the cylinder ported and head setup for you riding style, fuel, ect. also you can advance the timing.

To each his own. I wouldn't put a lightened flywheel on a trail bike (you have to remember, when I say trail, I MEAN trail) The extra interia helps with clutching in heavy stuff and pulling up through ruts and things. Plus, I wouldn't want to risk cutting metal off unless it's on something you're REALLY going to see a difference on (drag quad for instance where the engine has EVERYTHING done to it you possibly can and the only thing left is to remove intertial weight)

the real HP/dollar mod is porting and head re-chambering but don't forget all of the other upgrades you'll need to pull those when you go budgeting for your engine work. An upgraded carburetor is right up on the list of things you'll want to look into, get that engine breathing better!

For trail riding a lightened fly isn't always the best idea. To quick of a throttle response in my opinion. Port and head mod works great. and doesn't break the bank too much Haha

i do have, and have had trail bikes man...lol.. not all draggers here..i just prefer the faster revs. im usually not lugging around in tight areas and when i am i know to use the clutch... but you are right. to each his own.

Whoa now, I saw your trail bike.... :D and I never saw it leave the strip :p

I guess the quick revs could be of benefit in certain situations BUT I'd rather have the "lugging ability" on tight technical trails (especially muddy ones with half the blaster forum in tow behind me I:I). I also think that money for tuning an engine would best be spent in other areas than cutting a few ounces of weight off the flywheel... especially if he has a budget in mind.

hahahah... it saw the trails and the oval by the one pond and the mx track a good deal.

Well porting timing mod and head mod with a bigger carb. Talk to a engine builder and they can explain exactly what you need.
