i checked it and its about 90 psi. this sounds low to me. im not sure what it should be tho. maybe this is why it wont kick start but can push start? it idles ok now but still cuts out in high rpm, and like i said wont kick start. i do have fuel and spark too. no water in it anywhere. compression is my only guess on why it acts up. is 90 psi too low? if it is, how can i fix it? any other ideas?

btw, its bored .30 over, upgraded exhaust and fuel system. not sure of the brands cuz it was on when i got it.

90psi is very weak, especially for a 2-stroke. And yeah, a pressure that low will make the engine diffucult to start. It also will not run well under a load and it won't develop full power. Time to bore it .040 over (or go big bore!!) and do a top end rebuild.

A healty Blasty engine will have at least 135psi cold compression...

thats what i was afraid of. know how much a rebuild kit goes for? is it something i can do myself (except the bore) or do i have to take it to a shop? i have plenty of tools, and im pretty mechanically inclined but i havent worked on quads before.

its really easy and yea you have to take the cylinder to a shop to get it bored out. and you need to rechamfer ur ports.

You can get a Wiseco Pro Lite piston kit, comes complete with everything you need except the bore. I would suggest you get the piston kit before you take it to the machine shop.
Also dont get a cast piston spend the extra and get a forged it will save you money in the long run.

so i took it apart and found that one of my rings (the top) had broken and was missing about an inch and also slightly damaged my piston. ill need new rings and piston, might as well do gaskets while im at it. will i still need to do a slight bore? there seems to be no damage at all to the cylinder wall.

You should have it honed if the cylinder walls are ok. A good way to check is to run your finger nail around it to feel for grooves. I suggest measuring the cylinder for the bore size.
