Left Case broken at shift shaft

So I picked up Blaster number 4 this weekend. I got it for next to nothing. The left engine cover is broken, Has anybody ever welded one by the shift shaft? I have a buddy that can weld aluminum and does an awesome job. Anybody ever done it? How long did it hold up or is it still holding up?

It also has a small hole in the left side from where the chain hit it (it still works but you can see the rod that comes down). It is right where the clutch rod comes down riht in front of the front sprocket. It looks like it is sealed inside there so it won't leak. Does any body know if it will leak there I guess I can try to weld that part up too or JB weld it.? I will try to get pics of it when I get home.

I know I should just but a left case but it is not worth spending the money on unless someone has one cheap!''Thanks!

i got a blaster for free and the shift shaft housing was welded all the way around, it looks like it will hold it shifts fine, i haven't gone out and beat on the quad yet to make sure it will hold ... i can try and get u pics if u want ...

if you got pics I would like to see them. I will be getting this welded all the way around the shift shaft also tomorrow. Does your engine have any wear from the chain?

ok i have some pics they really didn't come out well and it looks like crap cause there is RTV on the shifter shaft lol .. nah i don't think there is any wear from the chain ..
