I went riding today and again ran into a problem... My head has an air leak! There is oil that is seeping through and I can hear it squeeking bad. Do i have to take my jug off and check my piston? Or do I just torque everything back down? Could I have leaned it out by getting air in the motor and fryed my rings or maybe even worse. Going to pull my motor out tomorow morning.

Thanks alot,
Cody

It would be wise to replace the top end gaskets and check to see if you might have a bad stud somewhere that isn't keeping the proper torque

Hopefully the rings will be fine and you'll just need to pull the head and jug off and throw in new gaskets. Use the proper torque and torquing techniques.

If the piston is fine, it wouldn't hurt to just have the jug honed out and throw a new set of rings in there while you've got things apart.

Well the motor is brand new with a Vitos 240. Do I HAVE to replace my gaskets or would it be ok to reuse them just once? Since the motor is new can I skipp the honing?

No, don't re-use the gaskets.

Who put it together?? How many hours on it?? If it's not even broken in, then no need for new rings and gaskets. If it's got a few long days of riding on it, then honing and new rings is not required, but will make the top end last a little longer.

Properly torquing it is key. If you don't, then this happens, or worse!! If you paid someone to put the motor together for you, then tell them you want your money back, have them pay for a new set of gaskets, and don't let them touch it again!

No i didnt pay ne one to do this. I got the quad 2 weeks ago and obviosly the guy didnt have a torque wrench. Im just going to pull the top end off and check it over cause who knows what else the guy did and didnt do it right. Prolly check the whole machine over real good.

Yes you HAVE to replace the gaskets. If you don't, even once you torque everything down properly, you'll still have this problem.

I still don't understand "brand new motor." Are you trying to say that it's got a fresh top end?? Fresh top and bottom end?? "Brand new" makes no sense unless you just picked it up from a dealer.

Ok sorry its got a new top end. Like I said I got the quad 2 weeks ago still getting to know it. 1st blaster.
Thanks alot for your help

Also every so many hours your supposed to re-torque your head, so it might just need re-torqued. But it might be a good idea to take it apart and inspect it if you don't trust the other guy's work. And sometimes you can get away with reusing head gaskets for a little while, but it'd be better to replace them.

did you put the 240 kit on or did he?cuz he could be lying and just saying its new.the guy that i got mine from told me it was just rebuilt and had like 3hrs on it and ive had it like 2 months and from the begining it knock and now my piston broke and it only had a 66.8mm piston in it.sry to get off the subject a lil but tellin my experience
