late night

change of plans. as i found a local 1986 250r....but it appears the case has been split and then sealed back together with an orangey silicone or something. any ideas?

Does it still run? Its pretty rare to find a R motor that hasn't been split due to the fact that they have had 20 some years to break a change and crack the cases or atleast have to had the crank rebuilt. I wouldn't worry about the orage stuff at all, its high temp sylicone and helps the motor seal. If it is not running or running bad, you can try some carb tuning but if its motor you might as well pull the cylinder. Stock motors are cheap to rebuild, but you need to check all the specs especially of the crank and rod. If the piston has come apart(yes they still run very hard with just parts of the piston) you really should pull apart the bottom end, otherwise you might end up with something like this:

That piston is about 10 hours old in a 330R (omething was stuck in the bottomend we didn't get out),which pistons for that are not nearly as cheap, but even worse the bores i lost off the cylinder. I was told buy a guy thats been racing for years that when he pulls them apart he sends the crank off for rebuild and weld, which is what i'll be doing as well. Just keep us up on your progress

are those metal shavings? just a f*cked up head? its not AS clean as it looks in the pics but still pretty clean. idk. i have to test ride it first. how much would one pay for such a find...?

like said it just depends on it's shape, it looks relativly stock which is also kinda rare for old r's but with the market in the dump don't expect much anywhere from 1500-3000 probably, when i bought mine the market was doing good and i paid:(

parts for the old r's are cheap. Buy it! When I built my old r it cost a fortune. A 330 cylinder back in the day was 1200 now there down to under 500.

apparently there is a $1200 bill for why the case is split, and it got a new topend rebuild. i just rode it, gears seem fine. and its f*ckin RIPS. those front wheels just want to come off the ground, and take my 165 pound body with it

Lol i'm glad you did!

Sounds like its a good deal. The one stroker built that i now have would beat up on 450's with 1 stuck ring,1 skirt missing and the other cracked, and i have the video's to prove. Ran a 8.9 in the 8th like that. I need to rebuild cause i sure do miss
