Kx250f rebuild

Thats because they have overheating issues, but the impeller kit fixed that. The valves seats were cut sh*tty from the factory and the valves arent any good.

We looked at the valves and they look pretty nice, but when we took the head off the valves had a lot of carbon build up. I cleaned most of it off with a screw driver and me trusty pocket knife. And thank you Blasterb0y for the gravestone offer but unlike some kids I'm not much of an idiot throttle jockey on big bikes. I will ride slow at first, of course because it's a big bike. But once I get the hand of it I'll probably sell it, lol. I want me a honda trx450r or a rappy 660. And by the way I have some pics but I left the camera at the garage so it may be a little later when I get some pics up.

That is the worst thing you can do. The Ti valves have a special coating on them that keeps them from wearing, and you just scratched it off. Looking at the valves does not mean anything when you are talking about .002 in. specifications. If you want this rebuild to mean anything you will get new valves, which arent that expensive. And you should get stainless stell ones, they are cheaper and dont need to be shimmed as often.

jsjockey thanks for the advice but the coating is extremely hard to scrape off. Anyway we finally got the bike running but the timing is just a wee bit off. We started it by pulling it with our truck. At first I rode on the bike to start it but it bogged down and died. So my dad told me to drive the truck back to our house while he was on the bike, we rode it and it started to run a little better but we still have to fix the timing. By the way I know how to drive, it is fairly easy. Anyway here are some pics.

The pics are over here.

Well, actually we did line up the tdc marks but it was hard to find it because some moron dropped a piston circlip into the magneto place and it made some more gashes making it look like there was three tdc marks. We first lined up the tdc marks, then set the cams on the dots, and lastly we slowly turned the motor to see if the piston made a clink when it hit the valves. Basically the same thing jsjockey said but a little more to it.

yea that wont work, they can be off one tooth and not hit the valves. But it will be hard as sh*t to start. And when it does it will backfire and popand it will be an unsmooth exhaust note, and it will sound like something is rattling. I would suggest you get a new flywheel before you mess something up.

it will also backfire if it is running very lean and if the valves arent adjusted right. And how do you know you need to move it one tooth ahead or behind? You dont, The best thing to do is look for a little H. And the I should be to the right of that.
