Well I thought I'd come over here to where everyone loves the little blaster machines. I always thought they were neat lil wheelers but man they have some real potential and very reliable, low maintenance quads.
In case the title didn't do it for you - I'm putting a blaster motor in a KTM EXC chassis. For reasons like no power valve to clean, air cooled (no rads to smash), cheap to fix and find parts...
I got the rolling chassis for free. The brakes work but need some work. The rear wheel needs shimmed in different places to make it line up. But all in all I got a good chassis with a "mc" title which means that I can goto the notary and get registration for it! I:I
I had been pondering the idea for well over a year now and finally decided to do it. I just got a '98 blaster motor last weekend with all electicals and carb for $400. He did a compression test on it and said it was around 120. I kicked it over a few times and seems to have decent compression.
So here begins the build thread full of questions!! Here's a few shots I just took after the first mock up:
I was really surprised how well the pipe/kicker/engine area worked out for fitment!
The carb is really happy where it's at BUT the TORS has got to go - it won't fit with the tors on because it hits the frame tube. Someone on TT told me about the motionpro twist throttle kit that eliminates the tors but you need to drill a hole for an idle kit? I'm sure someone has experience with them. Is it a quality product? Or is there a better option for totally eliminating the tors??
Thanks in advance for ANY input that you people may want to throw my way!
