So I got great news! Some guy wants to give me a blown IT490 motor in trade for my 70 dirt bike! :) I really want to do this but I have some questions! What would the most difficult part be besides the pipe? I'm only 15 and I'd have to rely on my uncle/dad to weld and also how much would a piston for it be and also how often do the ITs blow? I'm decent at best with maintenance I know how to change oil and all that, but anything motor-wise?

First...o_OIs the motor counter balanced like the Blaster? If not Big Bore 2 stroke will dismantle the stock Blaster frame in short order.

The time between re builds relates to jetting, lubrication and regular maintenance.

Do everything correctly and you can expect many happy hours from your engine.

Do it wrong = $$$$$$$$.

A lot of guys have successfully swapped a cr500 motor in quads with good results. I imagine it takes a LOT of planning and a lot of overkill on parts that will be stressed.

You are going to spend at least 1000$ on this build and countless hours of fab work. Its a lot of work to put a old air cooled big bore 2 stroke engine in a quad. Parts will be rare to find too. Its a lot of work!

Mounting the engine isnt really that hard, if you have decent fab skills, the pipe is the hardest part, there is no way i can see spending any were close to a grand to do this including buying a rolling chassis, if you have the parts needed to make the engine operate like electrical stuff an what not then your good, an your gonna spend more time on the pipe then mounting engine in the frame. Search around on these forums, there is quite a few threads that pertain to this exact swap

It comes with everything, wires, motor, carb, etc all it needs is bored and a new piston, but I could get that done around 100 dollars and we have a welder and some metal

I already posted this on a different section but long story short I have the chance to get a blown it490 motor and I want to swap it how difficult would this project be and what about the cost?

Just sayin....could be a problem. Hondas own CR 250 r ATV was known to develop cracks in the frames, Ive seen 2 that had them.

I texted you my opinion as to what to do with yours, it will be plenty fast, an if you ever want more you can go stroker an triple port.

Yeah it was my engine you was getting lol

I just got your text I was thinking Flotek a while back, but I don't know how much they cost. One of my cousins friends had a flotek dragster and it was unlike anything I've ever seen lol
