lowell, in
what would cause ur engine to gradually rev itself up and then fluctuate a litttle, theres no tension on the cable either so its not that, help me out here.

did you check the idle screw thats under the seat by the air filter box if you already checked that then i dont know what it is im not a mechanic i only know simple stuff lol

Could be the case, start checking for small cracks it the intake boot. then you might want to try holding an unlit propane torch (just turn the gas on and let it spray out) near the intake in different places and see if it causes the engine to run differently. If it does thats almost a sure sign of an air leak.
By the way , I'm not sure why but Ive heard that you should never use starting fluid on a 2-stroke maybe someone else could elaborate a little more on this. just wouldnt want to see you cause damage to your motor.

my bike was doing this also. my dad told to cheak the throtle cable again and it was craked and sticking. so i toke the cable of my parts bike and she fired first kick no choke

definately use the repair manual on this site to set the idle. It works really good just did mine the last guy that had it had the throttle cable to the thumb with no free play and the tors idle all the way out. it seemed like it would rev really high when it warmed up. Now it wont anymore

mine is a mikuni andi checked for leaks, and it will start, and run for like 5 secs than die, its like clock work, i even set all the screws propperly and cleaned it all out its spotless choke or no choke it does the same ting every time

this may have to do with your TORS.. if you want, look in the DIY's and look for TORS removal if you wanted to go that route..

also check your reeds for cracks/damage or whatever..

yeah thats diconnected it sparks fine, justwierd that it runs fine for like 5 sec than its like some thing is shutting it down, i f*cked with the screws and drew them way out and it kept running a little longer , once but then it wouldnt star with them in that position, so i put them back to normal

are the carbs the same also from 88- 2003? cause i have 2 carbs here and one the throttle slide is a liitle longer than the other and idk if its an aftermarket one or not

sounds like you might have a clogged float valve. it's not feeding fuel to the bowl fast enough so your bike will run for a few seconds till the bowl is drained, then cuts off till it can slowly fill back up.
try checking that, if not then it's gotta be a leak somewhere, once you get her fired up, spray some carb cleaner around the boot, carb, etc and see if the engine speed changes.
it could also be a jetting issue.
