Is this normal?

I installed the V FORCE3's and timing mod last night and upon pulling the reed cage out noticed alot of fuel puddled in the jug.I wiped it all out and after the install fired it up on the first kick like always.

I know its running a little rich with the 290 jet and the plug indicates so but it runs great is this a concern.There was maybe a teaspoon or two i wiped out.I couldnt see down in the port or in the crank case but that little dip in the front on the port was full and the gaskets were wet when i removed them.

If the fuel is left on that is the problem. If not than I would not be to worried. The crankcase should have some residual oil laying on the bottom. I'm not sure how much fuel should be there also but seems ok to me. As far as the puddle in port I think thats the same, residual oil. Pics would help but that is my blind guess.

Make sure the petcock is shut off each time you put your bike up. I would check to see if your petcock is working properly. Pull your fuel hose off the carb and turn the petcock from on to off to reserve. See if your petcock actually shuts off the gas flow. Mine didnt stop the gas even when it was on the off position, so I replaced the seals on the petcock and it works perfect now.

My humble opinion-

I really don't see the petcock being the cause. 3 things would need to happen.

1. leaky petcock, obviously
2. leaky needle/seat or sunk float(possible)
3. plugged/capped overflow tubes (unlikely)

I'll disagree with the masses. Fuel isn't just going to flow into the cylinder. The carb bowl and overflow pickup are below the intake. When someone sees fuel flowing out of the carb overflow that doesn't mean the cylinder has already filled up. Think about it.


I wouldn't worry about it too much. Does this seem like clean, thin fuel, or more like darker oil? Be sure you're running proper premix ratio and work on getting your jetting dialed in. Otherwise I'd worry more if you weren't getting that bottom end oiled well. Jet it down a little, give it a good ripping, and I'm sure it'll clean up.
