What is the advantage of taking off the top of the intake cover? I am using a k&n filter.

it creates more airflow, same as an aftermarket aluminum air box. More airflow= more horse power.

I have still yet to see CFM ratings for the stock intake less lid and any of the aftermarket airboxes....

same here. But it does seem like it will help with airflow and make the engine a little snappier.
