Hi All, I have an 01 blaster and When I start it it idles fine, but after a little while 15-20 minutes of riding the idle is very high. To the point I have to let the clutch out (burn the clutch) a bit to bring it down so my buddies can hear me talk.
I have sprayed everything with carb cleaner with it running and I can find no air leak.
Someone recommended I disconnect TORS and I've done that but nothing changed.
Someone else recommended I turn the idle down but if I did that It wouldn't run when I start it.

This is a pain in my a** and I would really like someone helping me sort this out.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great!
Thanks Guys!

i think he meant the air screw....the one on the outside of the carb...turn it clockwise to get richer and out to get lean....n your case i am guessing you need to screw it in cuz sounds like its running lean....that happned to my blaster too.

i suppose it could be jetting in this case. if you're too lean, it might create too much heat in the combustion chamber. this is dangerous cuz it could lead to a blown piston.
i've got a similar symptom in my bike, but i think it's from a leak in my head gasket.
try richening your air screw, see if that helps.

I will try to make the adjustments and report back.
I am half thinking the head gasket may be leaking because it looks wet.
The jerk I bought it from just threw it together so he could sell it. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he didn't torque it correctly and air is getting in there. The engine has about 10 hours on it since he rebuilt it.

Any one know what the head should be torqued to please?
What would be the harm in removing the head and adding some gasket sealer? Do I have to take the engine out to do this?

Today I am replacing the rear axle bearings but before I ride it again I want to go all through it and be sure everything is okay. You wouldn't believe all the parts this thing was missing, I finally have everything I need to ride it but I am kinda scared to because I don't want to bust something else.

That rpm getting high thing really bugs me.
thanks for the help this far!!

well, you can try ADDING gasket maker to your head gasket, but those copper head gaskets are crush type gaskets so the best way would be to get a new one and torque it to spec....i think it's like 17 ft/lbs....

just get a new base gasket. they are less than $20.00 probably more like $8.00. Anyways, the guy I bought my blaster from decided to replace my base gasket with silicone. Not good. Leaks everywhere. My quad was doing VERY similar things as yours. It would idle fine then when i reved it it would rev really really high. Just replace the base gasket, there is a DIY section and I will prolly take you about an hour to do.

I found and fixed the problem.

The screw on cap that the throttle cable goes into was completely unscrewed and so I screwed it tight, then the piece of metal that is supposed to stop it from coming loose wasn't making contact with the thing so I took it off and bent it a little put it back on and whala! no more high revving idle!

Thanks for all your suggestions though!! I:I

that happened to me before as well. the screw came out and the cap loosened up, luckily i caught it before it started giving me troubles.
