I have a 2001 blaster. I recently got the top end rebuilt. I cranked it up one day and was given it gas to help warm it up and it died. I couldn't get it to start again and I was tired of kickin on it so I just put it in the shed. I haven't had a chance to mess with it since then until today. I pulled it out and kicked on it prolly three or four times and now my kick start won't go down. I kno it's hard to tell what it is with out looking at it but I was just hopin to get some ideas of what it may be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for lookin.

The kicker issue could be a couple of things, the first is the most common, the kicker gear spring tab came out of the keeper hole. Usually caused when removal of clutch cover by an inexperienced person, (not that i ever did that :-[ ) The fix is to drain the tranny fluid, remove the clutch cover, and put it back in the keeper hole.

#2 could be a stuck ring- only way to tell this is to take the head off the top of the cylinder, and visually look, you may be able to push the piston down with your hand at this point, another way to unstick a ring is to put it in gear, and rock it back and fourth sometimes that free's them sometimes not. But once free i would remove the cylinder, check the rings/piston and bore, look at the ports inside the cylinder, should be chamfered (smoothed on an angle) this prevents thhe rings from getting snagged on the sharp edges.

Now when everything is all together and torqued correctly perform a leak down test instruction and also a compression test. Report the results back here. Instructions/video attached VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

How To Do A Compression Test On A ATV - YouTube

How long ago did you leave it in the shed?
Compression test first off will set you straight.

Can't do this if the kicker won't go down. :D

check the glass cover to left of the crankcase on the kickstart side see if you fluid has the right amount, check u havent run out. its mostlikely a stuck rinhlg pull your head and jug off and if the ring breaks make sure no goes into your cases.

It sat in my shed for about a month I think. And I guess I'm screwed cause the wheels won't budge. Thanks for the replies so far guys

So, are you saying all four wheels are locked up, or it's in gear and won't budge? Take the spark plug out and try to rock it backward first then frontwards, if no luck, try holding the clutch in and doing it, still no budge, remove the top end see if the rings are snagged, or if the crank is siezed. report back......

If I pull the clutch it'll roll but if I put it in gear the back wheels won't move. They have a lil give to them but not much. And I'll try the apart plug thing tomorrow

Try the plug deal. If your piston was low in the jug and had a leaking carb, it could be hydro locked. The fuel fills up the cylinder.

ehh, how tough do the tusk clutch plates look? How often do you change tranny fluid?

ehhhh..... the steel plates look pretty tough, but the friction plates look a little like the oem, but i do think they are a lot tougher.... the only bad thing about the oil, is that it is very sticky when it is cold. i usually have to pull the clutch in and out a few times whiole the engine is warming up, but when the engine is warm, it shifts and runs like a dream..... and it dosent slip eaither. the oil does get dirty fast, but thats because the previous owner nere did tranny flushes or even changed it for that fact. i flushed it once and changed it 2 times, and the oil is still pretty clean. theres still probs some bad oil in there anyway, so im not really surprised its a little dirty

I got her runnin. I took it to my buddy and he had to order a new piston and ring I believe is what he said. If anyone's interested in buyin it I'd sell it. It's all stock
