i might have f*cked up my axle?

so i took it off to to put new carrier bearings in and i hit the side (where the thread is) with a hammer to pop it out like it said in tutorial video on youtube and new i cant get the nut back on ? i emailed the guy that made the video and he said to grind of and and make the top narrow'r but i aint going near my axel with a grinder !! X( so what to do re-die it? if so what tap do i use? or forcce the nut on ? its only the first few rings of thread that are damaged ill put up a pic in a few mins!

^^^Yup def what he said 1st. Thats what happened to me on my control arm threads. It got hit and couldnt get the nut on. Used a file 1st. Then went real lightly w/ a fine grit flap wheel on my grinder. Went on like a charm...GL
 
It's cool bro. Relax. Just take a flat bastard(file) and shave down the part you mushroomed. Then chase it with the die. You can cut the threads with a small triangle file also. I would avoid power tools unles you are confident in your skill with them. Cudos for being 14 and doing it yourself. You only learn from lots of practice and an good screw up now and then!
