ok so since i just fixed my pipe and such, i figured id make this thread and put all the info into one place.

ok, so if u think your exhaust is leaking, some of the most common problems are hanging revs, weird results on plug chops (makes it look lean, and not consistant), very loud, choppy revs, lots of smooge leaking, and no to little power band.

To check if its leaking, its pretty simple. just start ur bike cold, put the choke on perferably full, but if it wont stay running, than half is good, and rev it a little. if u see smoke comming out of somewhere between engine head to flange or flange to pipe, than u have a leak.

If you ever tried to plug chop with a leaking pipe, than u will know how irrating and annoying it is to get good results. the plug usually looks all black or gray around the entire electrode, with only a very tiny spot of brown color half way around the electrode.

This pic ^^^ are the plug chops i did when the pipe was leaking in both places. the last plug are the same settings as i did the one below in the same conditions, in the same amount of distance. u cant really see well in the pic, but it was gray and black around the entire plug, and only a tiny brown ring.

this pic ^^^ like i said before are the same settings as the last plug chop in the pic above, except no leak in the pipe at all. u can tell rite off the bat what looked lean in the pic abovee is aucatlly a tad rich. bu i like it. and there is no black or gray anywhere on the plug.

To fix a leak between the head and flange, u can get some kind of gasket material, trace ur flange on it, and cut it out, than stick it on, and once the engine heats up, it will melt and seal it. and to fix a leak from flange to pipe, most people will use high temp copper silicone. u can get this stuff on ebay for cheap. and all u do with this is take the 2 peices appart, apply it on both peices, put everything back to gether and let it sit for at LEAST 24 hours. than u should be good to go. another method is to just get a tighter or stronger spring.

once u fix all the leaks in the exhaust system, you will notice a huge power and speed increase, along with no more hanging or choppy revs, and smooth power through out all the throttle positions assuming ur jetting is good.

YOU DONT WANT TO RUN A 2 STROKE WITH A LEAKING PIPE!!!!! doing this will most likely cause a melt down.

Nailed it on the head man! I just fixed my leaky exhaust flange about 4-5 days ago... And wow what a difference. It has so much more power, I was & still am truly surprised at the difference it made. I knew it would help me but didn't realize how much power I was really losing. ( mind you that it was a rather large leak and I was running w/o a gasket lol little did I know that it fell out and then I totally forgot to check it when I tightened everything up plus my flange wouldn't bolt up 100% tight )

Lol Yupp same. I had no idea it would do all that weird stuff too, and how much power I really lost. I was gonna just keep it like that too, and race. Glad I'd dident. I:I
