How hard should bottom end be to turn when fully assembled with stator & flywheel?

Hey guys, this is my first post, so be easy on me. I purchased a 2003 stock Blaster that had a seized engine. When I removed the top end, I found the piston skirt broken off. Parts of it were in the exhaust, and some had dropped into the crankcase. The top end is currently being bored .20 over, and I've purchased a Wiseco piston and gasket kit. The lower journal bearing felt great, and there was no play in the rod. I hung the bottom end upside down from a rack, and turned it over while spraying carb cleaner into it to wash out any parts of the piston that may have been lingering.
Here's my question. As I turn the bottom end over, there is a part of the rotation that lasts about 3/4 of the rotation that I have a good bit of resistance. I can turn the flywheel by hand, but just barely through this part of the rotation, I usually have to attach a ratchet to turn it easier. The resistance doesn't feel like a bearing drag or drag from a piece of the piston still floating around, but it feels more like a magnet (from the stator). I'm just surprised at how hard it is to turn. Is this normal? Do I have other problems? I don't have a flywheel puller, so this is why I'm asking before I buy one. Also, the case has not been split, only the clutch cover removed. Everything looks great there. I really don't want to split the case since the crank has no play in it. I just need to know if this amount of torque resistance is coming from the stator or not.

Thanks!

I would Split the case, I had a piston bottom blow up on me , everything looks good, crank moved with no issues. I split the case to be on the safe side, found a crank in the wall between the crank housing and the transmission.

I removed the clutch basket and other gears underneath the clutch cover and found that the resistance is not coming from the crank, but from the uppermost shaft on the clutch side. The manual shows this as the ballancer gear, so it sounds like you were spot on Blaster99. The good news is that my crank feels great. Is there anywhere that I can rent a case splitter, crank puller, and flywheel puller? Anyone on here interested in renting the tools to me? I can get them back to you very quickly!

Go on ebay and buy the flywheel puller or go to your local yamaha dealer and get one.You can make a crank puller and case splitter pretty cheap and then you will have them.Shoot me your email in a p.m. and I will shoot some pics of the homemade crank puller and case splitter.Shouldn't be more than $25-30 total to make both tools.Make sure you have a manual before splitting those cases.Good luck.
