so yeah i was doing some thinking and was wondering is it hard on a motor to drive through cold water when the motor is hot?im talking about ice cold water

it isn't the best. going from heat to cold fast and cause metal become brittle and crack.
but if you keep the engine running the whole time, you shouldnt have a huge problem.

it is a lil hard to avoid puddles.lol
but where i was prospecting the river was friggin cold.u couldnt keep your hands in the water for more then 3 seconds.so next year i guess ill avoid ripping in the shallow spots

it isn't bad if a little water gets on it.
but lets say the engine is hot and you go flying into a deep water hole and submerge the engine, that is when problems happen.
same when you wash your quad, best to let the motor cool down before you spray cold water onto the engine.

a buddy of mine bought a used 4x4 up in alaska and when spring hit he took it out mudding i got a call from him to come give him a ride and check out the truck. he had cracked the block by runnin the hell out of it and splashin through deep puddles. the water was so cold it still had ice in it.

ken oconnor and i seem to think that when slicks boy shattered a piston while on a ride with me on "awk mountain", it may have been due to shane crossing a very cold moutain stream a little too hard, splashing a large amount of water onto a very hot motor, causing the piston to shatter about 100 yards after the stream
the aluminum piston will cool quicker than the steel sleeve, causing piston slap, shattering it
same reason you let it warm up completely before riding it hard
