well got some snow today and was all excited and took the blasty out. well tried to move and didnt go anywhere. absolutly no traction and movement. i am currently running 18inch maxis crosses tires and i know they r small but traction is no where in sight i do not move on an inch of snow. my question is wat tires can i get and size that can raise up and get traction for winter?? i have my stock wheels and tires that might be good but looking for sumthin better. thanks let me know. i also dont wantto stud the tires b/c i drive on roads so i dont think thatll be good.

Stock would work pretty good. Best in snow is tall and narrow. Aftermarket something like bear claws work. Even some sand tires work good, since you can't grab traction in snow the faster you can remove snow from under the tires the faster you will goI:I

thinking outloud here but maybe i can stud my stock tires and itll work but idk just thinking. the diy in the diy for studding tires uses screws... will these work?

what has worked well for me in the past was a set of GBC Dirt Devil tires in the smallest size they make for an 8 inch rim(22x11x8 i think)
they are tall for clearance, wide to float on the snow and if you look at the tread pattern you'll see what im talkin about ,and they rock in the mud and hard pack too

My stock tires do really good in the snow. I had blackwaters. A mud tire. They did good in snow but once you got on hard packed snow like roads. Forget it. Also, hows the motor running?

i did a small break in on it but other than that i got to take it out 1 day in ym steet and the biotch rips it up. i hit it in 3rd gear and it picks the front up. i was gettgin some weird knock last night but im using 93 and my jet is up to a 300 so i dont know wat it could be. but those maxxis 4 snow tires i seenf ro 50 bux on ebay i may graba set and put on my stock wheels. im gonna throw my stock tires on the back and see wat the dif is and then go from there.

im prolly gonna get yelled at here but !!! I have good snow and mud tires i bought from tractor supply and by the looks at em you would think i rip the snow up with no problem..but I DONT !! my blaster goes np where. Im just speaking with experience with my blaster here ,but i think blasters suck seriously bad in snow. atleast mines does, it has two much low end power and snappyness. all mine does is a spin, dig a hole and go no where fast !
heres the tires i have for the fall mud and snow. 69 bucks from tractor supply

yea i looked at some i was surprised last year i went fine through the snow but nothing real deep i went out yesterday and went no where. but also my motor is powerful so i think it made it alot worse. my 18inch tires puts my sprocket about 3 inches from the ground. i like the maxxis 4 snows for 50 a peice.

exactly !!! im in the same situation, i have 8" douglas rims on the back with turf tammers, and a fairly modded engine with allot of low end torque.
but like i said, i even got them friggen tractor tires for the back and still went no where. I think i have to much power for the snow, its imposible not to spin and dig a hole.
but im cool with that. winter for me is a time to rebuild and make it even more bad ass !!! when i get itchy to ride i just rip it up the road a few times , freeze my ass off and get the itch to ride out of me !

we r gettin slammed rite now again so im gonna throw the stockies on the back and see how it does then mayb do some small studs in the stockies and see if it does anything. gonna use some cheap screws for the hell of it they r only stockies that r sittign in the corner ayway.

I just studded my fronts so I can turn. I used #8x1/2" self tapping screws. They have a 1/4" hex head. We are getting more ice than snow here. Everything is melting and refreezing. Not sure how much they will help in deep snow but was alot better on ice. On the rear, I have been running mud lites, they are ok in snow but suck on ice. Im about to stud my razors and see if they are any better, but without studs the razors went nowhere.

First off I have experience with a lot of snow riding. 18 inch tires are waay too small. Not only will you get less traction with small tires but your skid plate is going to drag and prevent your tires from making contact. Your going to need at LEAST 20 or 21's but I would recommend 22's. I have ridden in the deepest snow with my 400ex AND hardpack snow on the road. Believe it or not but I find that holeshots work best on both and are an excellent all around tire. The "trail boss" or holeshot XCT uses much higher knobbies then standard holeshots. They work great in the snow for such an all around tire. In the snow you want to keep the tires spinning as fast as possible. For example don't putt around in first gear, grab second or third as long as you can keep the engine in powerband. Sand/Mud tires will work best for deep snow traction but I don't prefer them. I find that the proper size and tread pattern holeshots with the proper snow riding techniques works great. How deep are we talkin here?

I've got about 15-16" of snow on the ground. The blaster isn't going anywhere!! I get 20-30' off the driveway and start digging up grass. The snow is just too deep.

~6" of snow is perfect....sometimes a little tricky to start off if you stop while blazing a new trail, but do-able.

yeah i went riding. the blaster is a lil light to do snow riding. i was ridin in 5 inches of iced topped snow on the trails and it was a lil rough for it. i think i could do atleast 8 inches of snow with stock tires.

Yea, 15 inches of snow is really pushing the limit of a 2 wheel drive quad. Your going to need at least 22" tires. If your expecting to ride in deep snow all winter go with mud/snow tires! The blackwaters or mud lights are a good choice. If you plan on riding in between storms when there is only a few inches of snow I would go with 22" holeshot XCT's. There are benifits and drawbacks to both tires. 15" of snow is a lot to ask for sport/race tires though, especially an 18 inch!!!

I studded my Razors. In the ice they work great. The field was a solid sheet of ice. My brother was just spinnin and doing donuts on his 300ex and I could ride wheelies. I would have to be rolling in 2nd gear and slowly pop the clutch but I almost flipped it over backwards a couple times. On the trails I was getting around ALOT better than my brothers non studded Razors. Today we went on the gravel roads and I could hear the screws flying out and hittin my plastics. I put 960 screws in the rear yesterday and Im guessing I have 500 left today. Worked great but wasted $22 and 5 hours. I pullin the rest out tomorrow so I can use the dam screws for something useful.
