I got a chance to really enjoy New Orleans over the summer. Check out the French Quarters. It won't even be super busy this time of the year.
Lots of good food to eat, lots of shops, and nice scenery.
You could also check out the New Jersey coast. It won't be far for you guys and offers a lot. If you're looking for heat, definitely go south. Georgia and lower has about 70 degree heat still.
