Higher compression + timing advance

I am in the process of putting a spare motor together. It is a stock stroke stock jug bored .080 over with a mild port(I don't know who did it it was done when I got it) and the head has been shaved but not re-chambered I'm not sure how much though, the last time I ran this jug it was on 93 octane @ 40:1 with Amsoil Dominator and it seemed to run fine. My question is would it still be a good idea to do the timing advance with this motor if I don't want to go over 93 octane?

Also I don't know whats going on with my Con rod. It is a veserah Rod on what I think is a stock crank there are no spacers under the jug and the head is not notched. But I had to file the opening on the case to let the rod pass through kinda like with the vitos stroker. Any body ever run one of these before?

The Vesra rods do not grind/finish the rods well and I have had to clear some things so that they can rotate.

As far as the timing, you could go +2 degrees and be safe.

IMHO dont just assume your golden cause it ran good before ,it would be a good idea to measure the squish clearance using solder ,you could be on the ragged edge and the extra ignition timing might push you over into the danger zone of a seizure
it only takes a minute to check and not worth the potential risk in my eyes, once you have that number you will know if its safe to do .

Well, I'll just leave it stock for now since I already got the head on and I was in a hurry to get it put together before I had to leave, so I didn't bother to file the hole yet since I dont know for sure that the stator I grabbed even works. I'll wait till I get a new gasket before I go trying to take the head off since this gasket was already used once. But when I do I'll check the clearance.

t o check squish you leave the head on ,you use a section of 1/8 solder down in the spark plug is all,no need to tear anything apart ...takes like 2 minutes

Thanks, I never heard of that but, its a good idea. I'll check it when I get a chance.

Normally I would never re-use a head gasket but this build was kind of a spur of the moment thing and I didn't want to wait for a gasket to come in to finish it up. I will be putting a new head gasket on it before I go anywhere on it other than around my yard. I think I have a new gasket around here somewhere but I don't remember where I put it and I dont know if it was for a stock jug or a 240. I also need to buy a stator cover gasket, since that is the only thing I didn't have an extra one of.
