im new no this web site so im really helping some gear head can help me out. cause im getting rather upset at my bike. i have an 01 yamah blaster. i just had the bottom end completly rebuilt. all new bearings seal, the whole nine yards. i had them put in a new weisco crank. the cylinder is bored .040 over and i have a brand new weisco piston and rings along with v force reads and i also put a vitos high compression head gasket on. i also did the tors elimination. well it will not start at all now. i cheaked the compression and its only running at 90psi. so my question would be how come its running so low of compression when it has the high comp gasket and its all brand new. please give me feed back. im stumpedd

those vitos gaskets aren't verry good. you probably have a head gasket leak which is why the compression is so low and it won't start. order some oem gaskets. head gasket and base gasket are the best in my oppinion

Did a reputable shop do the top end work? That is pretty low for a new top end. I agree with scot. Put OEM gaskets in and do a leakdown test.

i did the top end work. i tore it all apart again and rebuilt it and still running at 90. iv rebuilt plenty of blasters before and not sure whats going on with this one.

Is the piston in correct way, rings on piston correct direction, what is the ring and piston clearence to cylinder wall? all above will cause low compression and unable to start.

can i use any kind of leak down tool. or do they make special ones for fourwheelers. cause i actually rebuild automotive car engines for a living.

no it was bored before this rebuild. i honed it.

ummmmm why would you hone it. the person who bored it should have honed it to perfection to the measurements of the piston. hmmm could be out of specs if you honed the hell out of it. I've seen it done. it doensn't take long

the rings ans pston and everything is in the right way/ right direction. cleaernce is fine. and i honed it cause it was bored about 2 years ago it wasnt bored just recently for this build. and i didnt hone the hell out of it. i probably honed it about 20 up and down.

how do i go about ordering one of those. i got confised after following like two links lol

thanks. now other then doing a leakdown test (which im going to buy one) what eles could possibly be the problem.

wait....were you holding the throttle wide open, and kicking it till the needle stops moving while compression testing it ????

and could bad reeds give a false low compression reeding ????

Seeing as though from info provided with new cylinder, piston, rings and it having slighty lower than norm compression, added with it will not start could very well be cracked or bent reed pedal. I would for sure look into the reed pedals.
