do not keep riding it like it is, starving it for fuel with the petcock could run it lean and fry your shiz

starting with the basics:
check your reeds for broken/cracked petals ?
is the air filter clean and re-oiled correctly ?

then onto the carb..........

properly clean your carb

set/check float height:

adjust airscrew

i'd luv to jump on the leak test, leak test, leak test bandwagon,
but these symptoms just do not point at an airleak

Interpreting what you are saying, when you give it full throttle it runs poorly.

When you tap the throttle, it could be running better as you would purge excessive fuel.

You could have a needle and seat, float height problem.

I saw no mention of your petcock, but if indeed it runs better with the petcock off, then you are running rich.

It would pay to remove the carb and clean it paying particular attention to the needle and seat.

When you put the carb back on it would be a good idea to re adjust your idle as per specs.

At this time I do not think that a leak test is warranted, but if it continues to smoke excessively after the adjustments, it may be a great idea to do one

Question for you, are you fully warming up the engine before riding.

After a long period of idle the crankcase may build up an excess of oil and cause a lot of smoke to be issued.

This problem can be fixed by purging the bottom end by blipping the throttle..
