To whomever told me that the '87 250r shock was 3 inches longer...
I measured it and it is 16" from eye to eye. Compare this with the stock Blaster at 15 1/2". Here is a side by side picture with the stock Blaster on the left and the 250r shock on the right.
It bolted up with a few minor mods. I used a bushing from the a-arms, and ground it down a bit to fit in the holes on the shock. I had to shave the bottom of the shock a little bit (the part that bolts onto the swingarm.) I then put two thin washers between each prong of the shock and the swingarm bracket to act as bearings.
I took the bushing out of the top of the shock, because the bolt on top works perfectly. Then comes the part I thought was the most fun. Mounting the reservoir!!! You can get as creative as you want here, but you are only allowed as much as the hose will give you.
This thing feels amazing! It's like riding a whole new quad... This shock makes me hate having my stocker fronts. Its like sitting on 4 pillows. And no matter how hard I hit this thing, it never bottoms out.
It raised the ride height about 1". I love it because when I sit it is at the perfect height.
For $48, this thing is InSaNe! I recommend this to anyone who is even slightly mechanically inclined. Thank you Suprex for all your help and your DIY.
